Position Summary A person in the Night Porter role acts as a Front Desk Agent, prepares the Auditor for reconciling the day’s financial activities, tends to guest requests and concerns, assists with keeping public areas clean, and provides general support to other staff.

9-10 hour shifts per week will include weekend nights and some holidays (between 36 and 40 hours per week).

A person in this position needs to be able to make decisions independently within set guidelines, with or without a manager on property.

Key elements of the role include:
  • completing pre-Audit tasks (e.g., checking that all reservations are entered and accurate, closing tills, checking for due outs, etc.)
  • checking guests in and out of the hotel, answering phones, making reservations, corresponding via email, answering guest questions
  • tending to guest requests, concerns/complaints
  • working closely with Security/Campus Public Safety officers to address security concerns
  • stocking the bell closet and linen closets
  • general cleaning including areas such as the break room, front desk and back office, lobby, restrooms, and courtyard/pool area. Also includes sanitizing key cards and pens.

A strong candidate is someone who has problem solving and deescalating experience, is reliable and a thoughtful team player, enjoys a busy atmosphere, can work with minimal supervision, and has an eye for detail.

Previous hotel experience is required, Night Porter/Night Audit experience is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification Completion of courses or training in Office Technology; OR
One year of general clerical experience which included typing, word processing, or other generation of documents; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • Prior hotel front desk experience;
  • Experience with problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Ability to clearly and respectfully communicate in English with a diverse customer base in-person, in writing, by telephone or by email to include;
  • Confidence making direct eye contact with guests.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working overnight shifts
  • Familiarity with OPERA property management system

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement The starting hourly rate for this position will be between $16.94 and $18.16. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
