Job Summary

The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery (FCMoD) is hiring for a half-time Sr Coordinator, Public Engagement (Events Liaison), who will provide leadership and support for FCMoD's group hosting needs that include but are not limited to school groups, special events, and community partner gatherings.

The FCMoD is a unique public/private partnership that engages visitors in an innovative learning environment. As an AAM-accredited museum (American Alliance of Museums), and Northern Colorado's only ASTC-affiliated museum (Association of Science-Technology Centers), FCMoD occupies a pivotal space in the cultural and educational life of our region and creates extraordinary opportunities for visitors to engage with experiences that explore the interplay of science and culture in ways that are deeply relevant to our community, our geography, and our shared history.

Under the guidance of the Group Hosts and Events Manager, the 20-hours per week Events Liaison will be responsible for identifying and coordinating initiatives, programs, and activities to support and build museum events, assess effectiveness and impact through feedback and alignment with community-level data, and provide reports and presentations to inform decision making. This position, in partnership with colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders, will develop strategies to engage and serve the community effectively. Existing strategies for events include school field trips as entry points for partnership, building organizational capacity to host groups of all types, and shaping events to align with community, partner, and FCMoD goals and mission.

A successful candidate will understand the value of relationship building and have excellent customer service, communication, planning, and administrative skills with keen attention to detail and a strong sense of aesthetics. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills are a must. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate event planning, design, production, and evaluation of events while managing all project deliverables on schedule and within budget.

  • Measure, track, and evaluate outcomes to ensure continuous process, service, and quality improvements.

  • Organize facilities/venues and manage all event details such as schedule, budget, transportation, location, invitee list, decor, catering, entertainment, special guests, equipment, promotional material, sponsorships, etc.

  • Communicate and coordinate staff and volunteer requirements for events including recruitment, task assignment, implementation, and recognition.

  • Manage the organization of materials, equipment, venue, and calendar related events, activities, and volunteering.

  • Develop, organize, and ensure communication of event safety measures to volunteers and event participants.

  • Develop and manage partnerships with key personnel at internal and external venues, food vendors, rental material companies, etc.

  • Maintain a comprehensive list of regional venues, including critical details such as pricing, capacities, and contact information.

  • Align all events with strategic priorities, mission, vision and values.

  • Conduct pre and post event evaluations and report on outcomes.

  • Identify stakeholders, establish relationships, and develop strategies for enhanced engagement, ensuring that all members of the community have a voice with additional focus on hard-to-reach or underrepresented populations.

  • Work with Department/Division Manager and others in the organization to identify strategic initiatives to engage the community.

  • Develop concepts for garnering public participation in programs and identify barriers to participation.

  • Support strategic communications including public and internal engagement priorities.

  • Conduct research and provide recommendations on strategy to more effectively communicate with, engage with, and involve the public.

  • Participate in and contribute to cross-functional committees and teams aimed at initiating or improving community engagement strategies according to departmental needs.

  • Assist team, as necessary, with all outreach functions, meetings and events, meeting summaries, media tracking, and other duties as required.

  • Build and sustain relationships with underrepresented populations in the community, as well as non-profit organizations, businesses and others that facilitate a strong sense of community.

  • Experience using software applications in the creation of presentations, spreadsheets, databases familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, web content management systems, online newsletters and social media applications highly desirable.

Required Qualifications

Experience Requirements
