The College of Fine Arts and Design is a center of excellence for the arts and design, as well as a center of innovation for improving and promoting arts education. School of Music Overview:


The UCO School of Music has a current faculty of 35 full-time (of which 26 are tenured or tenure-track positions) and approximately 35 part-time faculty, combined with a full-time professional staff of 8. There are approximately 350 students enrolled in degree programs that include the BA, BM, BME, and MM, within the framework of six divisions: Jazz Studies, Musical Theatre, Piano, Strings (Orchestras), Vocal Arts (Choirs and Opera), and Winds/Percussion (Bands). The University of Central Oklahoma and all of our curricular offerings are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Job Description:



  • This position is a temporary one-semester position for Spring 2025.

  • The position requires a full-time teaching load of 12 credit hours for Spring 2025 as specified by university policy.

  • Undergraduate and graduate courses taught will include: Applied Horn.

  • Other undergraduate and graduate courses taught could include: Aural Skills I-IV, Chamber Music, other theory courses as appropriate.

  • Support undergraduate and graduate music research and creative activity.

  • Recruit and retain students for the UCO horn studio.




Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Extensive performance and teaching experience in the field of traditional Applied Horn.

  • Ability to effectively teach courses in music theory and aural skills.

  • Ability to teach online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate students effectively.

  • Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.

  • Ability to recruit and retain students.




Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • A doctoral degree in music. ABD may be considered.




Required Education and Experience:



  • A master's degree in music.

  • A strong background in horn performance and pedagogy.

  • A minimum of 3 years of college teaching experience, including evidence of classroom teaching in music theory and/or aural skills.




Preferred Education and Experience:



  • 5 years of college teaching experience.
