Job Description:

The University of Oklahoma (OU) Gibbs College of Architecture (GCA) seeks candidates to fill two positions as either a Faculty Fellow and/or Teaching Lecturer position, with anticipated starting date August 15, 2025. Home to the American School of Architecture, and grounded in rigorous research, creative practice, and community engagement the Division educates future generations of architects, designers, and leaders, who embrace resourcefulness and experimentation with a keen sense of social purpose. We seek individuals whose teaching, research, and/or design agenda complement our legacy of pedagogical innovation and who will help sustain the division at the forefront of design research and education.

Fellowship and lecturer appointments are typically nine months/year, for a two-year term. These positions enable emerging designers and scholars to spend two academic years immersed in the creative community of the OU Division of Architecture. Successful candidates will be collaborative designers, scholars and teachers prepared to work with interdisciplinary faculty and students in Gibbs Colleges storied and fully accredited design programs.

Faculty will be immersed in opportunities to plug into OUs vibrant research communities and provided support necessary to grow/develop as teachers. Each faculty is expected to teach 13-18 credit hours of design studios, lectures, and/or seminars per academic year. Distribution of effort among Teaching, Research, and Service commitments will be negotiated. Current faculty research and course topics include but are not limited to: design for wellbeing; design practice; pedagogy; housing; resilience; community design; real estate; and building technology. OU faculty also have access to the incredible body of work produced by the architects of theAmerican School, now housed in the OU LibrariesAmerican School Archive.

Qualifications

A minimum of a professional degree (or international equivalent) in architecture or related field

Evidence of ability to successfully teach architecture studios, seminars, and lecture courses

Demonstrated ability to contribute to a collaborative working environment, in addition to possessing effective communication and inter-personal skills
