Job Role Summary
The Check-Out Clerk performs a variety of clerical and patient service duties necessary to maintain efficient flow of operations in the clinic/hospital/office setting.
The Check-Out Clerk for the OBGYN clinic will be responsible for connecting with each patient at the end of their clinic visit. They will review the After Visit Summary with the patient and schedule all future clinic and ancillary appointments. The Check-Out Clerk will schedule future referrals that have been ordered and process the check-out in the Electronic Medical Record. Attention to detail and critical thinking is required of this position. Knowledge of Microsoft Office functionality is desired but not required. Customer Service is a key component of this position.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Performs a variety of clerical and patient service duties necessary to maintain efficient flow of operations in the clinic/hospital/office setting
Adapts activities/behaviors to reflect and ensure adequate service appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e. neonatal, infant, pediatric, preschool, school-age, adolescent, adult, geriatric)
Checks-out patients. Checks in patients.
Establishes priorities, meets deadlines, follows written and verbal instructions
Knowledge of third party payers, familiar with ICD9, modifiers and coding related to clinic check-out
Knowledge of patient scheduling procedures
Retrieves medical records as needed and prepares chart for physician visit
Discusses the patient obligation policy with patient/family
Accountability for accuracy of data collected and entered into systems
Communicates effectively and maintains a positive working relationship with patients, management and employees to promote teamwork and positive image of Eskenazi Health Services
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Must pass a pre-test
Must complete outpatient registration program, and pass the exam with a score of 90% or higher
Pass annual competency exams as required
Maintain 95% accuracy on data audits
