Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Specialty Programs, the Rice Business Specialty Programs Administrator supports the high-quality and effective delivery of master's and undergraduate degree programs, including the online MBA program (MBA@Rice), the Master of Accounting degree and the undergraduate business programs. The position will support efforts, including: program operations, student support and, budget and financial management, outreach and communications, event planning and execution and overall administrative support. In addition, the position will need to demonstrate strong communication skills with multiple internal stakeholder groups, including faculty and school leadership, student life, and records and registration. The administrator also will support communication with students enrolled in the specialty programs, in support of community development and student success, as well as effective program delivery and fostering success for program faculty.

Workplace Requirements:

Hybrid position: This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. This position will have one work from home day per week. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: $50,000 to $54,000

*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1+ years' related experience supporting academic or educational programs, or similar initiatives in program management.

Essential Functions:

  • Administers the daily operations of assigned program(s) with general guidance of a faculty member or a senior staff member
  • Conducts research, analyzes data, identifies trends and develops reports
  • Plans and monitors annual project budgets, assists in the development of longer terms budget plans
  • Recommends and implements outreach plans, including communications, events, marketing, conferences, etc.
  • Provides support to faculty, staff and students as related to the programs
  • For academic programs, may assist with graduate student recruitment and admissions, student records, curriculum support, coordinating the accreditation process, managing scholarships and fellowships, and monitoring student progress.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


Additional Functions

  • Manage all aspects of signature events across Specialty Programs including the Rice Residential and graduation for online MBA students
  • Acts as first point of contact for communication with current students
  • Serves as the staff contact for various student clubs and organizations
  • Responsible for the creation and management of online content for the admitted student site, student resource site and onboarding materials
  • Administers and analyzes student surveys, presents results and proposes changes/adjustments based on analysis
  • Liaises with other Jones School and Rice University offices
  • Assists with the administration of projects and programs as assigned by the director
