Job Description:

ICA Languages Services is actively seeking an Onsite Manager in Monterey, CA, for our contract with DLIFLC. This position will be our lead coordinating with our Academic Advisor; supporting our instructors; filling in with classes; building curriculum; and other administrative duties. It is a full-time salaried position, with relocation provided to Monterey, CA, as this is a permanent position.

Administrative Responsibilities:


  • Conduct observations and student counseling, preparing and working with the teachers on Progress Reports (PR) and delivering progress reports and observation forms to Academic Advisor.

  • Review Progress Reports with students ensuring they understand their performance.

  • Work with students – address their requests, make sure attendance is accurate and submitted on time

  • Team teaching including EI, one-on-one lessons, substitution for Russian classes if necessary

  • Keep track of availability of teachers for potential teaching positions

  • Create Action plans for failing students and follow up on the implementation by the teams

  • Review of weekly and daily schedules and lesson plans – semi-autonomous instruction, balanced textbook and supplemental materials, production in class/activities, and other requirements by contract

  • Assessment – review quizzes, graded tests for quality control, analyze test results to see the deficiencies and advise the students to improve certain skills

  • Syllabus review – alignment by weeks, ILR levels, and relevant materials

  • Selection of authentic, supplemental materials for the existing classes tailored for the students, and for the bank of materials and activities for shared use by the Ru teachers

  • EI and individual class scheduling

Language Instruction:


  • Plan Russian language classes using a variety of teaching techniques and approaches, to develop students’ listening, reading, and speaking skills; Perform ad hoc instruction as needed

  • Use provided training materials and work collaboratively with other instructors on all program-related matters;

  • Perform other teaching and administrative duties, as needed, under the guidance of the Training Manager(s) and Supervisor(s);

  • Administer assessments as needed, and conduct other informal or formal evaluations of students’ learning progress;

  • Review monthly written reports of the students' progress and provide them to the supervisor and jointly, with the Teacher and Academic Advisor, develop plans to address any potential issues;

  • Work collaboratively with LMS Administrator and help Teachers maximize the use of instructional technology and online learning resources to support independent learning and the students meaningful instruction;

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Native or near-native level speaker of Russian, ILR Level 3 or higher. If non-native English speaker, a certified ILR 3 for speaking/listening/reading/writing in English

  • BA or higher degree in Second Language Acquisition, Linguistics, ESL, or a related field

  • At least 2 years of experience teaching in an intensive (4-6 hours per day) training program, teaching adults using proficiency-oriented methods and materials

  • Experience in developing or conducting proficiency testing is a plus


  • Extensive knowledge of ILR Levels and the application to final learning objectives

  • Knowledge and application of various adult instruction methodologies both in person and distance

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and experience with various educational software for asynchronous and synchronous learning.

  • Experience using technology in the classroom is highly desired

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong management and counseling abilities

  • Strong professional etiquette when communicating with clients 

  • Ability to keep a collegial and professional attitude towards supervisors, colleagues and other staff and teaching employees
