The family has a long and successful history in the financial services sector. The family has built a family office team and investment strategy to serve as stewards of the family and its capital. The family office team is responsible for managing all of the family's accounting and investment management needs, including the management of a diverse investment portfolio consisting of direct and indirect investments in public and private equity.
The family office is seeking a highly motivated and experienced accounting professional to join the team as Finance Director. This role will oversee the treasury and accounting functions at the family office, including but not limited to bill pay, cash management, tax advisory and balance sheet management. The Finance Director will also assist in strategic planning and capital allocation decisions across the family members and their separate operating businesses. The Finance Director will report to the COO of the family office and manage the existing accounting staff in order to ensure that the family and COO are aware of and up-to-date on all financial matters impacting the family and family office.
Responsibilities:
Strategy & Leadership
Assess & manage existing accounting staff consisting of two accountants as well as external accounting services and technology firms
Own and lead all conversations related to family office strategic financial needs
Work closely with the CFOs of the operating companies as well as with the family and family office CIO to determine capital needs and make strategic recommendations for cash needs and allocations
Work with family members and Family Office COO to continue to develop accounting function and ensure continued mentoring and development of finance team (internal and external providers)
Oversee and actively manage iterative improvements in financial and accounting systems including financial reporting, general ledger, and accounts payable platforms
Ensure an appropriate risk management system is in place to manage and mitigate key risk factors that might affect the family, and ensure the family members remain in compliance with all operating entity reporting requirements
Manage banking relationships and lending facilities, including monitoring and management of all financial counterparty arrangements
Assist outside investment advisors, tax accountants, attorneys and other third-party service providers with individual family transactions
Accounting, Tax, Financial Planning & Technology
Assume day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial related activities of the Family Office and all directly controlled family entities
Review and evolve all aspects of the Family Office's accounting function including all processes and reports, and their appropriate alignment with the family's financial goals
Work closely with Family Office investment team and other business unit heads to prepare a single, coherent view for all financial statements and reporting, including a comprehensive budgeting process
Prepare profit and loss statements, cash flow and P&L projections, maintaining capital accounts, monthly and quarterly reports, summaries of the asset portfolio and the performance thereof, handle personal financial matters and maintain banking relationships
Evaluate existing accounting and reporting systems and procedures to determine how to organize, refine, streamline, and enhance the current operating procedures
Manage all accounting/finance and tax functions, including family office budgeting and cash management for all entities
Work closely with external tax firm to organize and coordinate the preparation and filing of all tax returns and interface with tax advisors on all tax planning and strategy for the family members and affiliated entities
Ensure that the family members, Family Office & all managed assets maintain adequate insurance coverage
Requirements: • Minimum 15 years' accounting and strategic finance experience • Experience in asset management and/or working with family offices / UHNW individuals • Strong knowledge of accounting and bill pay software as well as Microsoft Office suite • Demonstrated leadership experience • Exceptional attention-to-detail and strong problem-solving skills • Excellent communication and presentation abilities • Bachelor's Degree • CPA preferred • FP&A experience a plus
