Christ United Methodist Church Sugar Land is looking for a full time Missions Director to support and champion opportunities for lay and clergy to serve as Christ's hands and feet within our community and the world. This includes providing guidance, encouragement and administrative support to a team of nearly two dozen independent ministries led by lay volunteers at Christ Church. This person must be detail-oriented, organized, flexible, strong on communication and relationship development, adaptable to changing situations and personalities, an optimist and encourager, and a servant-leader. Primary Responsibilities: Develop and maintain inside and outside mission programs for the
congregation of Christ UMC
Duties: • Recruit volunteers for leadership in the surrounding community
outreach programs and provide resources and training as needed. • Support and encourage the participation of the congregation in service
in local, domestic, and international settings and in both disaster
response and long-term mission efforts. • Provide enthusiastic encouragement, and consistent organization,
supervision, and direction for all mission ministry leaders. • Provide presence and support for all other mission efforts including,
but not limited to, those planned by the children's ministries, student
ministries, adult ministries. • Coordinate Change the World Day or other hands-on projects, as well
any annual Mission Ministry Fair. • Provide servant-leadership in developing new mission service
opportunities in line with the current vision of the church. • Organize, resource, and act as the liaison for local mission groups and
efforts, including, but not limited to: Restorative Justice Ministries,
Habitat for Humanity, Family Promise, H.O.M.E. Project, Soles for
Souls, Angel Tree, East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Garden
Ministry, Manna Bags, Meals on Wheels, GIFT, CPS, Mentoring,
Backpack Buddies, Stop Human Trafficking. • Oversee, organize, resource, and support volunteers involved in the
church's long-standing international mission relationships with Mexico,
Haiti, Uganda, and any future points of mission destination. • Work with the Pastors and Lay Teams to assist in coordinating any
campaigns/promotions in the church that invite people to SERVE or to
share their presence, prayers, and gifts. • Maintain an annual budget as approved by the Finance committee and
a current calendar for all mission efforts. • Maintain historical records of service and current records of
involvement in the church's data base (Realm). • Manage engaging communications for all mission efforts with the
Communications Department through the church's designated
procedures for church-wide distribution. • Maintain contact through media/technical/social networking avenues
with the congregation at large. • Oversee the work of the Missions Committee and direct the agenda for
all meetings. • Distribute "Mission Dollars" under the direction of the Missions
Committee. • Keep current and maintain the information in the Collection Corner,
literature and in the poster holders. • Maintain the church's relationship with missionaries, providing the
and a listing of benevolences given, and handle referrals as needed. • Attend weekly staff meetings and Church Council Meetings as
scheduled and any other meetings where attendance is requested.
It is understood that due to the nature of shared ministry, all staff members
may be required to perform duties that may lie outside of their normal
responsibilities from time to time as needed.
Qualifications/skills • Bachelor's degree • Experience in Missions management, including networking,
relationship/leadership-development, communications, teaching, and
orienting groups for service to others. • Administrative. organizational and collaborative servant-leader skills. • Computer and multi-media proficiency • Ability to work within budgets. • Ability to visualize, resource and carry out effective programs. • Ability to pivot and adapt creatively. • This position may require travel and excess hours, in addition to hours
outside normal business office hours. • This position may require heavy lifting; any physical limitations must be
reported to and agreed upon with the church prior to hiring.
