Job Description:

Position: Immediate opening for a Mechanical (Product Development) Engineer

Inspire Rx LLC is an Ann Arbor based start-up company that developed a portable negative pressure helmet system for use by patients with high-transmissible respiratory infectious disease such as Covid-19. In response to the urgent need to contain the virus, at the height of Covid-19 pandemic, Inspire Rx LLC developed a novel Personal Respiratory Isolation System, called AerosolVE™ BioHelmet in collaboration with the Emergency Care physicians at the University of Michigan hospital and it was successfully used to treat Covid-19 patients while protecting healthcare workers. With funding support from the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Inspire Rx is seeking a permanent FDA approval and scaling up production.

Position Description:

Inspire Rx has an immediate opening for a mechanical engineer skilled in design, CAD, prototyping with a flair for entrepreneurship. Working with the company CEO and a senior engineer, a suitable candidate is expected to undertake a variety of tasks including design, prototyping, customer survey, and work collaboratively with the FDA consultant, suppliers and the manufacturer.

Responsibilities:
  1. Identify and engage with component suppliers and procure materials and parts necessary for final assembly and fabrication.
  2. Conduct various bench tests to verify the performance, safety and efficacy of the device
  3. Survey medical personnel on comfort and wearability of the BioHelmet.
  4. Develop CAD designs and work with an industrial designer to develop a finished product
  5. Engage with a local FDA-approved manufacturing facility to implement quality system in collaboration with the FDA consultant
  6. Work in close collaboration with a manufacturing partner to develop tooling design for low-volume manufacturing.


Qualifications and Skills

Proficiency in use CAD tools (Solid Works)

Fabrication skills with evidence of prior experience in design, build and test.

Ability to think creatively and work independently

Product development skills including a demonstrated ability to engage proactively with customers and suppliers

Organizational and program management skills including the ability to plan proactively, work collaboratively and meet various deadlines

Ability to plan and make technical presentations to a wide range of audience

Self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design is required

3-5 years of product development experience in industry

Experience in medical device industry is a plus.
