Overview
Responsible for ongoing development and management of the Friends of the University Program.
Provides direct supervision of the Friends of the University Administrative Coordinator, RN Care Facilitation Managers, and Care Facilitation Resource Nurse.
Provides oversight to coordinate patient care/services with other team members.
Oversees daily patient assignments, ensuring productive time management, accomplishment of patient care needs, and effective communication and collaboration with various team members and stakeholders.
Performs continuous quality improvement
Risk Management: oversees department procedures and ensures effective practices of clarifying orders and directions appropriately.
Participates in department specific continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Demonstrates leadership through accountability and responsibility.
Effectively oversees and delegates to support skill mix.
Promotes development of support staff as appropriate for setting.
Provides oversight of timekeeping, vacation scheduling, on-call scheduling, and performance evaluations and quarterly check-ins with direct reports.
Oversees and maintains data collection system for the FOU Program.
Ensures timely data entry, report creation, and presentations necessary for FOU program partners and collaborators.
Oversees data collection system to track FOU Program constituent usage.
Provides data maintenance, program support, and necessary report creation for key stakeholders
Involvement in FOU Program strategic planning, mission alignment, funding and budgetary control, goal maintenance and overall vision.
Provides first point of contact for Friends of the University intersecting with OHSU hospital and clinics to evaluate care needs and facilitate care. These duties may include:
Provides care facilitation oversight for both ambulatory and inpatient FOU patients, patient advocacy, and collaboration with various OHSU departments and members of patient care team, etc. to ensure seamless care and coordination of patient services (i.e. physicians, nurses, residents, interns, students, therapists, social workers, case managers, etc.).
Utilizes Nursing assessment skills to prioritize care needs and direct patient care.
Demonstrates proficiency in clinical skills/knowledge and maintains knowledge base essential to the role of the professional nurse.
Identifies and develops areas of expertise within the specialty, and effectively demonstrates a working knowledge of area specific skills and follows established protocols.
Proficient in assessment of potential or actual patient health problems.
Provides fundamental components of patient safety within the specified setting.
Identifies and prioritizes pain, quality and comfort care; maintains knowledge of the OHSU policy for Pain Management.
Provides patient education:
In collaboration with clinical teams, provides health teaching and counseling which is supportive and/or restorative of health.
Provides family teaching as needed to support the patient and family centered care across the continuum through service coordination.
Prioritizes patient care responsibilities and seeks consultation when indicated.
Recognizes and effectively manages emergent situations.
CPR certified.
Responds appropriately to a code situation in the department.
Preserves patient rights:
Demonstrates patient advocacy skills.
Protects patient privacy and maintains confidentiality.
Responsibilities
Minimun degree of BSN required. Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing as recognized by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Minimum of 5 years acute care required.
Minimum of 2 years direct management or equivilant experience required (inlcuding roles such as lead RN, charge RN, preceptor).
Demonstrated comfort dealing with high profile individuals required.
Ability to understand and effectively manage more complex issues related to medical care in a multi-tiered, academic medical institution.
Individual must work effectively with all colleagues (clinical, development and administrative) throughout the OHSU Health System.
Requires Interpersonal skills that enable comfortable, service-oriented working relationships with the academic and executive leadership, healthcare professionals, major donors, trustees, colleagues, community& business leaders, dignitaries, celebrities, and high-profile individuals.
Individual must demonstrate independent leadership skills in resolving issues, timely communication [written and verbal] and the ability to facilitate clinical movement through the OHSU Health System.
Current unencumbered Oregon RN license.
Current unencumbered Washinton RN License.
Certification in Basic Life Support is required.
Qualifications
Experience in Emergency Room, Critical Care, Care or Case Management, Nursing Management preferred.
Experience working in the field of Special Constituent Relations, or related field preferred.
Experience with Electronic Medical Record system preferred.
