Position
Description



Metropolitan's Water Quality Section, Water Purification Unit, Engineering Compliance Team has one (1) opening for Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering majors. This position will require a time commitment of approximately 12-20 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, between 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, preferably, in four-hour blocks of time or more. For the summer months, up to 32 hours/week may be arranged.



Duties


The selected Co-Op student will assist engineers with various tasks involving water treatment processes and source water protection. Examples of these tasks include but are not limited to reviewing design packages, analyzing water quality data, updating standards, assisting with technical report writing, and performing literature searches. Additionally, the Co-Op student may assist in hands-on work, including water quality sampling and assisting in operating drinking water research and monitoring equipment.



Required Skills and/or Coursework


Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited four-year degree program in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or better in relevant major coursework is required. Sophomore or junior status with approximately two years remaining before graduation is required.


Desirable Skills and Abilities


Basic knowledge of drinking water treatment processes is helpful, but not mandatory. Proficient laboratory skills are desired. It is beneficial for the student to have one year of work experience (or coursework experience) in engineering and computer-related fields. Proficient computing and writing skills are desirable with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint).
