Lexicon is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Safety to join our team and drive our safety initiatives to new heights. We are committed to prioritizing the well-being of our employees. Vice President of Safety Position Summary

The Vice President of Safety is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive safety programs across the Lexicon businesses. This role ensures the health and safety of employees, compliance with safety regulations, and the promotion of a culture of safety throughout the organization. The VP of Safety will lead a team of safety professionals to lead initiatives to minimize risks, conduct safety training, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance, working closely with project and facility managers and supervisors, division heads and other executives to ensure safety protocols are strictly followed.

Vice President of Safety Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement a company-wide safety strategy and vision.
  • Lead the safety department, providing guidance and direction to safety managers and officers.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate safety into all business operations and decisions.
  • Safety Program Development and Implementation:
  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Utilize and implement industry best practices to promote a world-class safety culture focused on preventing SIFs.
  • Stop operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Plan, implement, and review safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Ensure site-specific safety plans and emergency response plans are developed and followed.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of safety programs to ensure effectiveness and compliance with industry standards.
  • Foster facility awareness, involvement, and accountability of health and safety issues to ensure full integration of company initiatives within all stages of the business.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
  • Conduct site assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and emergency response plans.
  • Prepares studies and analyses of accident causation and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Monitor safety performance and analyze incident reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Training and Development:
  • Develop and oversee safety training programs for employees at all levels, developing a comprehensive library of training to be incorporated programmatically within onboarding programs and retraining and refresher training initiatives.
  • Ensure all employees are adequately trained in safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement in safety practices.
  • Incident Management:
  • Lead investigations into safety incidents and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Develop corrective action plans to prevent future incidents.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure all safety-related documentation and reporting are accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to senior management and the board of directors.
  • Stay current with changes in safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure safety protocols are implemented and followed.
  • Foster open communication and collaboration across departments to promote a shared commitment to safety.
  • Act as the company's representative in safety matters with clients, regulatory agencies, and industry organizations.

Vice President of Safety Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in safety management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the industrial construction industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA and other relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles of behavior-based safety, ergonomics, health and safety management systems, industrial hygiene, injury and illness prevention, training, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and risk management strategies
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Valid driver's license with excellent driving record.
  • Must be able to pass drug (urine and hair) and alcohol tests.

Physical Demands
  • Office environment with frequent travel (up to 50%)
  • Some overtime, weekend work, and overnight travel.
  • Ability to (occasionally) respond to night or weekend events.
  • Ability to occasionally walk up to five miles per day in a construction or manufacturing environment, climb stairs to 150 feet, work in temperature extremes, work in loud, dusty environments, and work around high voltage electromagnetic fields.
