Job Description:

This position is 100% GRANT FUNDED, as part of the DoDEA World Language Advancement and Readiness Program. 100% of this position's time and effort must be spent in support of the DoDEA WLAR Program. Funding for this position is contingent upon the continuation of grant funds.

Primary Purpose:

To support the DoDEA Fine Arts Grant Program.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
• Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
• Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction projects and teaching effectiveness
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of second language teaching research and practice
• Skills of instructional coaching
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of K-12 public educational settings in the U.S.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Fluent Speaker of Chinese language (Mandarin) and/or Superior Level of Chinese Proficiency

Experience:
• Minimum of two (2) years experience teaching Chinese language at the high school level (Five or more years preferred)
• Experience teaching AP Chinese Courses preferred
• Experience in the area of instructional coaching preferred
• Experience running/leading summer language camps preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. A minimum of 60% of the work time will be spent providing instructional coaching and support. Other works include but are not limited to office work related to the DoDEA Grant, including reviewing our language portfolios for feedback to teachers on how they could help advance Chinese language proficiency, following up on coaching feedback, and professional development targeting aggressive language proficiency growth.

2. Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher's individual professional development and student learning;

3. Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through coaching and collaborative problem-solving.

4. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and coaching to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in the classroom.

5. Evaluate teacher effectiveness following established district projects.

6. Plan and provide appropriate staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff.

7. Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply instructional strategies.

8. Develop curricular or behavioral support materials as needed

9. Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in the area assigned.

10. Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment, and information; Break projects into doable actions and set timeframes.

11. Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise.

12. Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants in the Houston area;

13. Work closely with the Project Director and ensure timely communication regarding the project's progress. Work with the Project Director to eliminate blockers.

14. Use tools to monitor working hours, plans, and expenditures.

15. Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports.

16. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

17. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

18. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

19. All other duties as assigned by the Project Director

Additional Work Demands:

1. Frequent driving to campuses

2. Travel to program sites and events

3. Work during summer and some weekends

4. Work under pressure to meet deadlines

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; Instructional technology tools

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
