The Buyer is responsible for purchase order execution to meet the material requirements for uninterrupted production activities of a diverse range of materials and services. This role involves strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and ensuring the timely delivery of quality goods at competitive prices. This role involves purchasing, inventory control, materials availability, ERP expertise and coordinating the flow of materials and supplies on an optimal delivery cycle to meet production demands. The Buyer will work closely with various departments to understand their purchasing needs and develop procurement strategies that align with the company's production and materials planning.
This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in procurement.
What will you be doing?
Create, review, get approval and place purchase orders in accordance with production planning, internal requests and company policies. Ensure timely and accurate placement of orders.
Review purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness, ensuring they meet company standards and budget constraints.
Ensure data integrity of master data elements which drive production and MRP (safety stock, cycle times, BOM accuracy, effectivity dates).
Negotiate terms and conditions, including pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and quality standards to secure the best deals.
Monitor and manage the performance of contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
Add and maintain vendor data as required. Acknowledge PO receipt and delivery date commitments from vendors.
Interface with Accounts Payable to resolve invoicing discrepancies.
Work with suppliers to improve their processes and performance, fostering long-term partnerships.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing suppliers; evaluate and select new vendors. Work with suppliers to reduce order quantities while increasing order frequency to reduce risk on obsolescence issues. Proactively improve supplier On Tim Delivery (OTD).
Identify supplier key metrics and implement improvement processes.
Analyze PPV structures and trends to identify opportunities for savings.
Coordinate with QA and QC raw material test releases.
Work with logistics providers to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods. Resolve any shipping or delivery issues that arise.
Address and resolve any procurement-related issues or concerns raised by internal stakeholders, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Provide regular reports and updates on procurement activities, supplier performance, and cost savings to senior management.
Identify and assess potential risks in the supply chain, developing mitigation strategies to address them.
Other duties as assigned by Supply Chain management.
What will you need to be successful?
Education:
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, procurement, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably in a senior role.
Knowledgeable in MRP concepts and experience with MRP software (SAP preferred).
Professional certification (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, CPP) is preferred.
Strong negotiation, communication and contract management skills preferred.
Travel: 0-10% Occasional travel may be required to meet with suppliers or attend industry events.
