XPT Specialty seeks a talented professional with Excess & Surplus (E&S) Commercial Property and Casualty experience to join our growing team. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the team's efficiency and effectiveness by gathering relevant data, conducting initial risk assessments, assisting in the quoting process, and managing accounts throughout the policy lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
Assist in underwriting new and renewal business, including solicitation, selection, rejection, and pricing strategies for a complex mix of business
Maintain thorough knowledge of underwriting guidelines, carrier appetite, and state-specific insurance laws and regulations
Within delegated authority levels, accept, reject, or modify new and renewal business to ensure a profitable book of business
Monitor accounts to ensure compliance with carrier requirements
Communicate with agents and brokers regarding declinations, exposure concerns, policy cancellations, and inspection results
Cultivate and maintain relationships with agents, brokers, and insurance carriers
Qualifications:
Broad knowledge of concepts and procedures related to commercial property and casualty insurance, which is typically acquired through a bachelor's degree in a related field or at least two years of wholesale E&S related experience
Ability to comprehend and analyze necessary components of insurance policies
Familiarity with the underwriting process, including the processing of endorsements, NOCs, and audits
Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to discern when to use telephone, email, or more formal means of communication
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Effectively work in a team environment managing complex workloads while exhibiting strong analytical and decision-making skills
Ability to work with multi-faceted systems, including rating software, AIM, and ImageRight
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products
Must possess or obtain a California Insurance license within six months of employment
Status: Full-time, 40 hours weekly, non-exempt position working traditional business hours, Monday through Friday.
