The International Ballet in Greer, South Carolina, is seeking a dynamic and experienced ballet education leader to help steward the legacy of International Ballet Founder Lena Forster while fostering growth for this well-established and highly reputable dance organization.
The IB Academy Director is responsible for the overall management and success of the International Ballet Academy in all its locations. The Academy currently operates at two locations in Greer, South Carolina and four outreach/satellite locations in Greenville, South Carolina. The Academy Director reports to the President. The position requires coordination with all internal departments and relevant external partner organizations. The Director must be able to shift from management responsibilities to serving as an instructor. The Director helps to develop policies and objectives for the school program and supervises Academy faculty and administrative staff.
Position Responsibilities:
Direct and assess ballet education programs using specific, sequential curricula
Collaborate with relevant internal departments in establishing school policies, calendar, class schedule, and syllabus
Teach ballet classes at all levels and speak knowledgeably of ballet pedagogy
Hire, train, and evaluate instructors
Evaluate student progress and determine best practice to share progress / analysis with students
Work with faculty to determine school level placements
Meet with students and parents as needed
Produce the annual End of Year Academy Demonstration
Work with leadership to manage scholarship program
Prepare monthly reports for President and IB Board of Directors
Serve as spokesperson for International Ballet Academy as needed
Support the Education Committee of the Board of Directors, schedule meetings, set agendas
Assist with the development of the Strategic Plan and Annual Reports
Provide leadership in nurturing a culture of positivity, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Communicate effectively and respectfully in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
Dedicated pedagogue with a proven track record of training ballet dancers from a young age
Thorough knowledge of and commitment to the forms and techniques of classical ballet, but must have experience and knowledge in Vaganova method/style
Established contacts in the national community of schools and companies
Inspiring presence in the studio with an ability to motivate students to excellence
Must show interest in overall dancer health - mind and body.
Confident and authentic communication style, with high emotional intelligence
Strong, highly adaptable verbal and written communication skills for multi-generational, diverse audiences.
Success driven, idea-generator who stays up to date with dance and ballet industry trends.
Preferred Qualifications:
Post secondary education or certification in dance education or professional equivalent
10+ years of ballet training with professional performance experience
5+ years' experience teaching ballet
Choreographic / Staging experience
Work Environment:
International Ballet is located in Greer, South Carolina, with facilities split between two buildings, within a quarter mile of each other. The lower division facility includes two shared office spaces: one for marketing and administration and one for leadership staff, a staff kitchen, three dance studios where classes are held, primarily after school hours and on weekends. The second facility, the Somerville Center, was established in 2019 and includes a formal lobby, performance space that seats up to 80, two studio spaces for rehearsals and classes, a bistro/break area that seats 20-25 persons and a 2,000 sq ft storage area that houses sets, props and costumes, as well as a fully equipped costume design and alteration space that seats up to 10 volunteers.
This is a full-time, salaried position for $54,000.
