The Histotechnologist Supervisor supports the mission, goals and strategic plan of Nevada Donor Network, Inc. (NDN) by providing oversight of daily histology operations, overseeing new test development and implementation, technologist training and participating in the daily performance, analysis, and other histology related duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s):
Follows specimen handling and processing procedures.
Prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handles the more complex jobs involving immunohistochemistry for clinical patient diagnosis.
Prepares tissue specimens for processing of frozen surgical tissue sections for cadaver donor biopsies.
Performs a wide variety of routine and complex procedures to prepare and analyze tissues from surgical specimens for histology, electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
Prepares cases for scanning on slide scanner.
Maintains and reviews quality control in assigned laboratory facilities.
Determines the acceptability of testing results and instrument function.
Maintains all equipment and places orders for reagents and materials.
Maintains records of samples including sample accessioning and paraffin block and slide files.
Assists in the writing and updating of the technical procedure manual and QC procedures following CLIA/CAP guidelines.
Provides guidance and leadership to employees within assigned section.
Identifies and assists in resolving operational and technical problems.
Evaluates and makes recommendations for new equipment, supplies and reagents and implements their application.
Works with the Medical Director to develop protocols for technical training and evaluation of competency for testing personnel.
Heads special projects as assigned
Participates in on-call rotation as needed.
Makes recommendations for process improvements, and facilitates Plan do Study Act (PDSA).
Participates in Strategic Planning process.
Performs other related duties as required/requested.
Requirements
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or university) in science or related field. Experience: Three (3) years full-time of relevant experience. Previous leadership experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Knowledge of relevant medical terminology is preferred. Experience with database applications preferred.
Other Requirements: Meets current state, federal and other regulatory agency (College of American Pathologist (CAP)) educational/experience requirements. Required to have a personal cell phone. Occasionally required to travel by personal auto to meet all the duties and responsibilities of the position.
