This role provides legal support to the business's legal team, HR department, and leadership, as needed. As Labor & Employment Counsel, you will be responsible for offering legal guidance and operational support on all labor and employment-related matters. This includes advising on a broad range of daily labor and employment issues, such as federal and state compliance, employee relations (hiring, performance management, terminations, compensation, etc.), wage and hour regulations, harassment and discrimination investigations, restrictive covenants, independent contractor agreements, employee handbooks, and leaves of absence or disability accommodations.
Key Responsibilities
Research and provide legal counsel on employment law matters, including hiring, compensation, discipline, terminations, and employee benefits.
Advise HR and leadership on employee relations issues such as coaching, disciplinary actions, accommodation requests, and benefits concerns.
Draft and revise employee agreements, offer letters, and related communications.
Support investigations into alleged employee misconduct.
Review and provide input on policies and procedures to ensure compliance with employment laws such as FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, ERISA, and Title VII.
Assist the Legal team and external counsel in managing administrative claims, demand letters, and litigation.
Occasionally assist with non-labor and employment legal matters as needed.
Handle other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a J.D. from an accredited law school.
Must be licensed to practice law.
Must be able to work onsite 3 days a week.
2-5 years of experience in labor and employment law, either in a law firm or in-house setting.
Strong ability to communicate legal advice clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
