General Statement of Duties:
Under the direction of the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for providing daily, functional support to ensure that the Academy's official accounting records are properly maintained in accordance with external laws and reporting requirements, internal policies, and generally accepted accounting principles. Primary responsibilities include implementing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, ensuring the accuracy of the Academy financial records and the production of various financial statements and reports.
Functions include general accounting, grant accounting, purchasing, procurement, accounts payable and receivables, bank logistics and transfers, etc., and other assigned fiscal related services and integrating these services with the operations of the Academy consistent with the laws, rules and regulations of the Commonwealth and the Academy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees the daily operations of accounting and financial reporting for the Academy; performs daily and monthly accounting and financial reporting tasks for the Academy and component units; assists the Controller in the oversight of all financial reporting to ensure the integrity of financial data.
Assists in the assessment of internal controls for the Academy to include the development and maintenance of updates to the fiscal policy and procedures
Assists the Controller with the preparation and execution of the annual independent financial statement audit for the Academy to include the preparation and review of all supporting documentation and schedules. Assists the Controller with all other audits or reviews that are
Coordinates the preparation of year-end accounting entries, reconciliations, and schedules. Oversees the coordination of and adherence to common closing schedules affecting multiple departments.
Assists in preparation and / or review of complex or highly complicated account reconciliations and / or fiscal reports for internal and external constituents including, but not limited to: a) trial balance, b) MA state 901 Reporting to MMARS or RT/TVs, c) IPEDS, d) Department of Higher Ed (DHE) HEIRs reporting, e) Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) HE-4, and f) various other reporting re the annual financial audit & regulatory
Manages general ledger, chart of accounts, accounting records and reconciliations.
Assists with cash management activities of the
Ensures accuracy of transactions entered into the Commonwealth's MMARS system (MA Management Accounting & Reporting System) for the Oversees the fund activity and reconciliation of the MMARS system to the Academy general ledger; including preparation of the final/annual cash basis reconciliation.

Special Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Night and / or weekend work may be required during peak periods such as the year-end audit; vacation limits required during peak periods.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required;
Three (3) to five (5) years of significant accounting and / or financial reporting experience, three (3) years of audit experience of public higher education with managerial responsibilities may be substituted.
Extensive working knowledge of and experience with MS Excel and Word, and computerized accounting / general ledger related

Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated effectiveness dealing with complex processes & systems.
Ability to work effectively with professional, non-professional, student personnel and/or various outside agencies in a professional and friendly manner.
Ability to clearly & effectively express self in written and oral communication.
Ability to function independently with a minimum of supervision, but willingness to receive and respond to direction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong experience working with either Ellucian Colleague and / or the MA Management Accounting and Reporting System (MMARS) and other MA state
Experience working in a Commonwealth of MA state entity or MA public institute of higher education.
Master's degree in a related field including Information Technology or a CPA (preferred), CMA, CFA or CGFM Certificate.
Ten (10) or more years of experience managing general accounting and / or financial reporting.
Knowledge of report writing applications.
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 annually. The Academy offers generous benefits and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is exempt under the FLSA.
