Job Summary
The Director Continuous Improvement serves as an internal consultant, working across the enterprise to identify opportunities to drive business and operational efficiencies, designs, plans, and executes process changes, and embeds the new processes and procedures into the organization for long term sustainability. The Director will partner with leadership across all lines of business to ensure changes to the operating model contributes to improvements in customer metrics, financial performance, and employee engagement. The Director will deliver measurable results and lead the change management efforts building support and buy-in from employees and leadership teams.
This newly created position, with the strongest level of support from the Senior Management team and the Board of Directors. The Director Continuous Improvement will play a key role in developing and launching the COE's operational excellence strategy across the 45-50 cargo sites in the US. This high visibility position reports directly to the SVP Center of Excellence, who is a direct report to the CEO.
The first step in this initiative will be to move aggressively into transforming fully functioning warehouse, showroom, prototypes at four of the company's flagship sites. Through the use of Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, value stream mapping, process improvements, cargo flow analysis, introduction of new technologies, hardware and software upgrades and investments these "paradigm" sites will illustrate tangible and visible improvements in process, layout, cargo flow, organizational design and technology that drive efficiencies in operations and manpower.
Ultimately the Director Continuous Improvement will identify and coach local resources at individual sites and roll out the initiative across the entire WFS operation.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this highly visible role within the organization include:
Project Planning through Execution:
Drive Strategic Planning to identify, prioritize and align projects with corporate goals and objectives.
Project planning through execution of multiple concurrent projects.
Business case development and presentation to Senior Leadership Team.
Documentation for new operating model.
KPI development to measure and monitor long term sustainability.
Documentation, training, and on-going support to internal customers
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to drive EBITDA improvement across multiple disciplines (organization structure, workflow, warehouse design and flow, new technology, etc.).
Incorporate best practices to design and deliver measurable productivity improvements.
Perform operational analyses including risk assessments, process mapping, process redesign, process simulations, root cause analyses, and time in motion studies.
Evaluate functions for insourcing/outsourcing opportunities.
Embed consistent processes across North America operations.
Identify, evaluate, and implement new technology solutions.
Minimum Requirements
7-10 years' experience in, engineering, operations, or related field.
Strategic thinker will have all of the traits of an effective player/coach comfortable with boardroom presentations who can successfully pivot to hands-on execution in the field.
Communications and relating skills to and persuade colleagues from the warehouse floor to the boardroom.
Knowledge of change management and influential factors.
BA in Business, Engineering, Finance, or related area of study required.
