Position Summary
The Apparel Buyer will be responsible for attaining or exceeding sales and gross margin plans within assigned departments through effective planning, negotiation and buying of merchandise. Works under the supervision of a buyer, operating within established guidelines. Collaborates with planning, ensures the timely delivery of orders and adjusts accordingly to stay on stock plan. Maintains positive relationships with vendors, attends trade shows and markets.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Manage sales and profitability for $100MM apparel business.
Manage apparel and accessory categories at DTLR.
Merchandise and develop private label business to maximize profitability.
Plan and develop target branded merchandise categories. (i.e. capris, basic denim)
Manage inventory levels of all designated departments to plan and be responsible to maintain OTB on weekly and monthly basis.
Work with allocator to monitor model stocks and replenishment in accessory businesses.
Track all purchase orders and shipping details by vendor on a weekly basis.
Reconcile purchases with receipts on a monthly basis by vendor.
Manage store inventories to planned sales levels.
Develop relationships with store management through regular visits and communication.
Develop and manage apparel buying plans for all vendors by working with merchandising team to execute new store plans effectively and efficiently.
Maintain regular contact with visual merchandising to plan, develop and maintain outlet and consolidation strategy for merchandise flow.
Facilitate open and positive relationships with store managers through assisting with store merchandising, merchandise transfers, price revisions and product troubleshooting.
Continuously evaluate and forecast upcoming trends through regular attendance at trade shows, vendor previews and regional visits
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
Education And/Or Experience
Bachelor's Degree preferred
3-5 years in related buying experience or 5-7 years with a mix of buying, planning and placement responsibilities
Skills And Knowledge Requirements
Strong merchandising, product and analytical skills
Proficiency in the use of desktop applications and Windows-based programs
Retail math literacy and application of concepts to daily operations
Work requires a solid knowledge of business and an excellent command of the English language to effectively communicate with management, associates and customers.
Proven ability to plan, organize, multi-task, set priorities effectively and efficiently to proactively respond to changing demands, from multiple sources
Results driven with demonstrated critical and creative thinking skills. Project management, time management, analytical and superior organizational skills required.
Must be able to maintain an exemplary degree of professionalism in all situations.
Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills
The ability to execute directives with precision and consistency.
Must have strong creative and innovative abilities in visual presentation.
Proven ability to understanding of product presentation
Must demonstrate an ability to think strategically, plan and organize effectively.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand/sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk; or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision and depth perception
The ability to travel extensively via any necessary mode of transportation is required.

Pay range: $75,000 - $90,000 (Depending on Experience); This role will be eligible for medical, dental, vision, 401k, sick leave, and company paid time off plan.
