Establish the vision and goals for a high-performing EHS culture and operation across the organization.
Collaborate with operations leadership to identify key priorities, objectives, and targets to align all facilities with corporate safety and environmental strategies.
Develop, implement, and monitor EHS programs, policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with both jurisdictional and company requirements.
Lead the internal safety oversight committee, defining its mission and charter, identifying improvement opportunities, and setting continuous improvement goals.
Mentor facility leaders and dotted-line EHS reports, enhancing their technical, leadership, and communication skills in safety and environmental practices.
Use tools and dashboards to create actionable reports for internal tracking and government reporting requirements.
Communicate safety and health metrics effectively across all levels of the organization.
Oversee environmental data collection and recordkeeping.
Manage environmental remediation and cleanup projects when necessary.
Work closely with Human Resources to manage injury/illness cases, effective restricted work programs, and safe employee returns, in line with necessary restrictions.
Oversee regulatory inspections and manage interactions with agencies.
Investigate incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
Ensure all jurisdictional compliance reports are maintained for every site.
Develop and provide training materials and documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
At least 7+ years of experience in multi-site EHS leadership, with a minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing setting.
Strong knowledge of ISO/RC 14001 and 45000 standards and certifications.
Familiarity with Federal, State, and local regulations governing hazardous waste, permitting, clean air, and wastewater.
Preferred background in environmental consulting, particularly with soil and groundwater contamination investigation and remediation.
Proven track record in driving safety culture change across an organization, using varied approaches to ensure sustainable adoption.
Experience in leading continuous improvement initiatives, implementing tools, best practices, and innovative processes.
Strong collaborative leadership and influence skills beyond direct reporting relationships.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience presenting information effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
Experience working with governmental agencies and understanding regulatory compliance (e.g., EPA, DOT, OSHA, RCRA).
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar designation preferred.
Experience developing and performing Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Hands-on leadership approach, willing to "walk the talk" and establish a robust EHS system.
Experience conducting EHS audits, Gemba walks, and assessments of new equipment for EHS compliance.
Ability to build safety skills in managers, emphasizing safety-first, risk assessment, and professional certifications like Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
Regularly review EHS vision and strategy, making recommendations to achieve company goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
