The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Pediatric and Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence, and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Public Health discipline is a dynamic unit that offers educational programs including community rotations, a dental public health residency program, and an Oral Epidemiology PhD program.
This position will serve as Social/Clinical Research Assistant for the waterBEST study, a 5-year, community-based study evaluating potential dental health benefits of fluoridated bottle water in pre-school children. Duties will be performed at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry Field Center located in Kinston NC. The responsibilities of the position includes, but are not limited to: delivering 5-gallon bottles of water to study participants' homes and collecting used bottles; recording water bottles in warehouse inventory; attention to detail in managing inventory and quality control procedures. The appointee will use a data management system to manage inventory and plan deliveries using GPS assisted routing software. Additional activities relate to participant recruitment screening informed consent and data collection during study visits. This requires attention to detail in completing case report forms (CRFs)/electronic case report forms (eCRFs), managing the collection, compilation, and entry of data into the data management system; documentation of study procedures. The appointee will meet with the Principal Investigator (PI), Project Manager and other members of the research team at least weekly to monitor study progress and any need for modification. Training to perform study-specific clinical procedures will be provided by the PI, and other members of the research study team. There will be occasional travel to the study's research offices at UNC Adams School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill NC.
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Knowledge of clinical trials methods, implementation monitoring and reporting. Proven organizational and communication skills. Expertise in designing specifications for data capture systems and relational databases. Proficiency with management of data systems created using relevant software such as Microsoft Access, SQL, REDCap and TeleformPrior.
Valid NC Driver's License required
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Ability to lift and move 5-gallon bottles of water with or without accommodations for filling water bottles. Ability to drive heavy duty pickup truck with trailer. Steel toed shoes required in warehouse. Evening and weekend work as needed.
