Staples Construction is growing. We are looking for a commercial construction experienced professional that will be able to support our growth. The ideal candidate has worked for a general contractor.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The Vice President of Construction will provide leadership and manage the construction cycle; from pre-construction to project completion while delivering exceptional service to our clients. The VP of Construction will not only manage day-to-day operations but ensure that all projects are managed and completed on schedule and exceed planned budgets.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Work closely with Project Managers and project teams, providing leadership on project startup, manage contractors, contracting strategy, mean and methods, phasing and sequencing of working throughout the project life cycle.
Ensure accurate project revenue forecasting, expenses and billings to maximize profitability.
Overall accountability for managing project risks.
Provide leadership to project teams in identifying and resolving operational issues.
Regularly perform site visits to assess project status, identify issues, and facilitate resolutions
Identifies potential risks and creates strategies to mitigate that risk.
Provide detailed oversight and management of the client relationship.
Assist the President with the management of the general operations overhead and yearly business planning.
Liaison with clients, sub-contractors, and take part in negotiations.
Work with the Company's safety team to ensure job site safety, investigation of incidents, and develop additional process to an ongoing safety culture
Stay current with the latest industry trends.
Attend industry events.
Participates in business development
Support and help develop proposal and preconstruction strategies.
Assist in the development of pursuit strategies to maximize profit.
Assist in the identification and securing of project pursuits.
Develop, build, and maintain client relationships.
This position directly supervises operations roles such as project engineers/coordinator, project managers, senior project managers and superintendents.
Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Ventura business.
Provide strategic oversight of talent development and training.
Manage and be accountable for complete profit and loss of the Ventura business.
Other duties as assigned.

Extensive operational experience in commercial construction with demonstrated team leadership across multiple, simultaneous projects above $50 M.
Expertise in project costs, schedules, contract negotiation, bidding process & change order procedures.

Ability to produce detailed estimates, budgets, and proposals; technical writing skills.
Manage entrepreneurial construction process from onset to close out, including Sub/ Vendor and In-house personnel.
Has a proven track record of successful project completions, high client satisfaction and solid profit earnings.
Software proficiency in the following preferred tools:
Microsoft Office suite (ex. Excel, Word, Outlook, Dynamics, etc.)
Procore
Scheduling (ex. MS Project, Sure Trak, Primavera 6, etc.)
Adobe
Superior verbal and written communication skills. Ability to tailor style to the audience as appropriate.
Strong financial experience in reviewing budgets, estimates for analysis and accuracy. Responsible for cost management.
Able to develop existing and new clients and increase work acquisition and revenue stream.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods) and safety.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE:
Fifteen plus (15+) years of progressively responsible managerial experience in general construction industry specifically for a General Contractor with revenues greater than $100M
Experience working with project managers/superintendents.
Four-year degree from an accredited university required. Construction, architecture, engineering or business concentration is preferred.
Advance degree preferred
Must have a strong network of Ventura or Los Angeles County industry professionals including brokers, construction managers, architects, property managers, engineers, and subcontractors.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must wear approved Personal Protective Equipment when at construction site.
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
Position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work-related documents and acute hearing is required when providing phone and face to face service.
Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold and be exposed to heavy dust and pollen.
Travel will be required throughout California - 30% travel.
