Summary: The Controller will be responsible for all areas relating to general ledger and financial reporting. This position will develop and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely publishing of internal and external financial statements.
The Controller will supervise the accounting staff and manage the team to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This role addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, working capital management, pre-acquisition evaluation, post-acquisition integration, year-end audit preparation, and support of budget and forecast activities.
The Controller will have contact with senior-level positions and the company's Executive Leadership, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
Responsibilities:
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and financial reporting.
Ensure all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled on a timely basis.
Perform P&L analytics on a monthly basis with comparisons to prior year and budgets; identify and communicate any areas of concern.
Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborate with other department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
Oversee tax payments, tax compliance requirements, and tax registrations in new locations.
Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources, while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Advise accounting staff and other departments regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
Act as the primary manager and liaison for the annual external audit staff and external tax consultants.
Assist the CFO in accounting for M&A transactions and integrating acquisitions.
Maintain accounting policy SOPs to be implemented throughout the various accounting departments.
Assist in maintaining controls over plant and corporate spending, and monitoring expenditures related to budget.
Manage site activities related to cost, production, management reports, journal entries, month-end reporting and analysis, and standard to actual variance for all locations.
Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls while continuously improving accounting processes to eliminate waste and shorten the close process, including the training and leadership of the Finance team.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws.
Establish challenging goals for self, finance staff, and management of the company, monitor results, and coach others on actions to achieve results.
Support CFO with special projects.
Additional responsibilities and projects as assigned in support of business objectives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Accounting required.
CPA a plus.
At least 7 years of Accounting experience.
In-depth understanding of GAAP and Internal Controls.
Strong ERP Skills (LucaNet and Syteline experience preferred).
Highly proficient in current computer software: MS Applications Word, Excel, Outlook.
Experience in budgeting, standard cost rate development, general ledger/accounting, management reporting, variance analysis, payroll tax and sales tax reporting, and general business issues.
Experience working for private equity-owned business a plus.
Experience with post-acquisition integration a plus.
Able to conduct effective meetings at any level.
Able to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, evaluate options, and choose the most appropriate one and implement solutions.
Strong management/leadership skills; able to lead people and get results through others; extreme dependability and reliability.
