The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a vital role in supporting the Engineering Manager by providing technical expertise across various company functions. This position involves designing and enhancing products, accessories, and customizations to improve manufacturing efficiency, standardization, and cost-effectiveness. The role includes developing product documentation, performing stress analyses, supporting compliance with testing and certifying organizations, and collaborating with other departments to ensure optimal product quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Design and Development:
Perform mechanical design and enhancement of new products and accessories, focusing on standardization, manufacturability, and cost reduction.
Conduct research to determine product mechanics, performance, and functional requirements.
Complete and document analytical stress analyses and structural simulations using FEA tools.
Develop 3D CAD models and technical specifications using Autodesk Inventor.
Collaboration and Improvement Initiatives:
Partner with Purchasing and Production teams to improve product quality and reduce costs.
Work with Sales and other functions on new product development and customization projects.
Coordinate material cost optimization initiatives between Engineering and Production.
Compliance and Certification:
Conduct product inspections and testing to meet NRTL standards, including lift certifications and device calibrations.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including electrical, environmental, and safety standards.
Assist with Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) reporting and participate in ALI committee meetings.
Support and Documentation:
Provide technical support to internal and external customers, including Service and Customer Support teams.
Handle MRP (BOM) data entry, drawing revisions, and resolve Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
Maintain an awareness of current industry technologies and participate in relevant industry activities.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5+ years of experience in mechanical design, including:
3 years of 3D CAD experience (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
5 years of mechanical design and MRP experience.
Strong background in FEA structural simulation, control design, and PLC programming.
