We are looking for a passionate, well-rounded environmental professional to help drive significant and sustainable progress in environmental management and performance at our Gustine, CA and Newman, CA facilities. This is a unique opportunity to catalyze tremendous impact through an organization poised for progress. As Environmental Manager, you will oversee and manage the facility's Environmental Management System (EMS), systematically ensuring environmental compliance and driving progress against our sustainability goals. You will serve as the plant's environmental advisor, change agent and specialist. In this position, you will flex a wide variety of skillsets, including tactical planning, creative problem solving, data analytics, reporting and people development. This role requires an insightful, organized and data-driven relationship-builder with working knowledge in environmental compliance and sustainability and technical proficiency in manufacturing systems.

How You Will Make Contributions That Matter... (Job Responsibilities: key tasks and assignments)


As Environmental Manager for our Gustine, CA and Newman, CA sites, you will oversee implementation of Saputo's Environmental Management System at the facility to ensure we achieve our environmental objectives. This is a hands-on role that engages and collaborates closely with teams across the plant structure that includes operations, maintenance, sanitation, sustainability, compliance.



  • Understand what the facility needs to accomplish, determine where to focus efforts and develop tactical plans for delivering on identified goals.

  • Carry out the plans, both directly and indirectly by engaging and guiding other key players at the site.

  • Seek out and advocate for the resources required to implement the facility's EMS, build EMS-related capability within the site through tools and training, and communicate the facility's environmental progress and impact to key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Monitor and measure the facility's environmental KPIs to ensure plans are delivering the desired results and to cultivate insights into opportunities for improvement.

  • Advocate and facilitate action for continual environmental performance improvement.



While this role will focus on holistic environmental management across both the compliance and sustainability spheres, there will be a heavier near-term focus on building capability and driving performance improvements specifically related to environmental sustainability.



You Are Best Suited for the Role if You Have.... (Role Responsibilities: education, work experience, knowledge, skills, abilities needed)


  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Management, Engineering or in a related field, or the equivalent experience. Knowledge of/experience in dairy industry desirable.

  • Direct professional experience in Environmental roles, with specific experience in:

    • Implementing and reviewing/auditing environmental management systems

    • Implementing an effective resource conservation (climate/water/waste) program in a manufacturing setting

    • Collecting and analyzing KPIs for reporting and developing actionable insights

    • Project management







  • Technical capacity for assessing and optimizing utility systems (steam, compressed air, refrigeration, etc.), including know-how for calculating theoretical/actual performance improvements and associated savings.

  • Working knowledge of relevant ISO standards, including the 14000 and 50000 family of standards.

  • Familiarity with PLC's, process instrumentation and process drawings.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental standards and regulations.

  • Relevant professional environmental certifications such as AEE's Certified Energy Manager or ASHRAE's Building Energy Assessment Professional a plus.

  • Understanding of programs like EPA Energy Star and DOE Better Plants a plus.

  • Strong reasoning ability: capable of breaking down complex problems into pieces that can be solved with data, analysis, assumptions, and judgment.

  • Strong language skills: capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, procedures, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, employees, and the public.

  • Strong computer skills including have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) with solid proficiency in data modeling/analytics.

  • A highly motivated, self-starter attitude that can operate independently with limited oversight.

  • A positive, enthusiastic, and passionate approach towards the role and the impact it can have on our world.

  • An ability to travel between site locations on a regular basis.

Salary range: $85,370 - $112,050


Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills, education, and training.
