The Department of Biology at Colby College is seeking an ecologist to fill an open, tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2025. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences with emphasis in ecology. We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated expertise in population or organism-level ecology, including physiological ecology. We are particularly interested in candidates with knowledge of organismal biology enabling them to teach one or more courses with a significant field component.
The successful candidate will teach 4.5 courses per year, with laboratories and discussion-based seminar classes constituting a portion of that load. The teaching responsibilities will include BI271 Ecology, an upper-level theoretical/mathematical biology course, and rotation in our introductory course BI164 Evolution & Diversity. It will also be possible to develop additional courses in the candidate's area of expertise. A commitment to undergraduate education is expected, and teaching experience is desirable. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community through their work. The successful candidate is expected to establish an active research program that includes supervision and mentoring of undergraduates. Active affiliations with the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences and other local research institutions provide potential for collaborative research opportunities. An attractive startup package is available.

Candidates are invited to include an optional statement in their cover letter describing how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected their career trajectory. Applications received by September 20, 2024, will receive full consideration.
