Job Description:

Hanford is a construction company that specializes in all aspects of applied ecological restoration, including large scale (heavy civil) earthwork-based restoration. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing long-term resource scheduling and allocation, administrative, contractual, and financial performance elements of projects. Hanford is seeking project managers who can manage a volume of $5-15mil a year. The Project managers represent the firm with clients and consultants and manage projects from start to close-out of project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the workflow of all assigned projects.
  • Depending on experience level, the Project Manager will manage project volume from $5mil to 15 mil annually.
  • Work closely with project superintendents (who oversee the field implementation/logistical elements) to build, maintain, and complete projects.
  • Responsible for client relations, including existing client management, new client identification and long-term sales leads with existing clients or new client targets.
  • Responsible for project execution including coordination, quality control, and cost management.
  • Work closely with administration (Finance, HR, Compliance, and Safety Departments) to implement projects and company policies in general.
  • Weekly job site visits for client/project meetings and to monitor progress of project
  • May advise on or participate in company business development and marketing strategies.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Project Oversight
  • Project implementation and completion (progress meetings in the field, long-term scheduling, resource management with project superintendents, reporting, punch-list, close-out)
  • Project cost and financial information management (manage budgets, oversee project accounts payable, prepare and manage change orders)
  • Project invoicing and payments (generating payment applications, tracking payment with clients)
  • Manage purchase orders; work with vendors to ensure proper invoices.
  • Support estimating in Preparing cost proposals (narratives, project references, experience write-ups, submittals) as directed.

Contract Management
  • Administer all elements of construction contracts.
  • Works with Compliance Department to ensure that all required labor requirements, insurance certificates, and permits are in place prior to commencing work.
  • Review project specific environmental permits and work with clients to ensure project maintains compliance.
  • Complete and manage project-specific compliance paperwork, as-needed.
  • Direct team members (administrative support staff, subcontractors and consultants) at all levels of contract administration.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative and field staff. Work with clients to resolve contractual conflicts.

Project Implementation
  • Initiate and maintain communication with owners and other contacts to facilitate project activities.
  • Work with superintendents to plan, organize and direct project tasks and/or activities.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of contract requirements and company policies. Confer with superintendents and foremen to discuss work procedures, complaints and construction problems.
  • Conduct periodic onsite observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with plans.
  • Monitor and control project through direction of on-site superintendent(s) to ensure project is completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Create and monitor reports concerning such areas as work progress, costs, and schedule in coordination with project superintendent.
  • Support superintendent as needed to order or coordinate supplies and materials to complete project.
  • Represent company in project and client meetings.
  • Provide quality control of highly technical project elements, including coordination with specialty subcontractors.
  • Review and approve supplier/vendor invoices and apply appropriate cost tracking codes.
  • Communicate with superintendent on potential issues and coordinate with client about potential issues or change orders.
  • Ensure projects are in compliance with storm water/water quality rules and regulations, understand stormwater prevention plans, best management practices, etc.
  • Oversees project completion including reporting, punch-list organization/management, and close-out procedures.

Safety
  • Coordinate with superintendent to identify job hazards and how to mitigate with safe practices to complete the project.
  • Coordinate with superintendents to ensure crew members are adequately trained in company safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend annual safety training to stay current with safe practices

  • Read and understand project plans, specifications, permits, memoranda, and other project-related documents; work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Independently solve project-related issues and propose and implement remedies with clients and stakeholders.
  • Interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors and employees at all levels of the organization; guide and supervise subordinates, build team understanding/framework effectively, and monitor company policies.
  • Experience working with public agencies and non-profit organizations.

Education and/or Experience

Construction project management experience ranging from 3-10 years or equivalent education and 2+ years with ecological restoration, geo-engineering, natural resource management, or equivalent/related fields.

Computer Skills

Use MS Office software with company templates to create cost proposals, reports, schedules, and other administrative documents. Must be proficient in excel. Ability to learn new software such as Bluebeam, HCSS programs, and NetSuite.
