Job Description:

JOB OVERVIEW

The Estimating Manager will lead all estimating activities on assigned projects and provide direct leadership to the Estimating Team. Activities include leading estimate startup, progress, and final review meetings, pre-bid schedule development, cost estimating, design management & coordination, value engineering, and constructability analysis. The Estimating Manager provides clients with quality customer service, has a strong understanding of all the aspects regarding construction and creatively solves problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide direct leadership by ensuring Estimating Team has a clear purpose, direction, motivation, and development while focusing on the organizations overall financial success.
  • Provide day-to-day support to all Pre-Construction team members to include but not limited to Estimating Engineer, Associate Estimators, Cost Estimators, and team members working on qualifications-based pursuits.
  • Prepare individual detailed cost estimates and review estimates created by others by analyzing plans, blueprints, specifications, and performing quantity take-offs for select trades
  • Oversees the utilization and accuracy of historical cost data utilized to develop and prepare conceptual estimates with minimal subcontractor assistance using limited preliminary design documents/information
  • Develop subcontract interest in projects and manage the subcontractor solicitation process
  • Review, qualify and level subcontractors' proposals according to project specifics to ensure all aspects of the project are well defined
  • Itemize trade specific scopes and prepare bid packages to ensure estimate completeness
  • Prepare and oversee the development of detailed pre-bid schedules, to establish a baseline regarding project duration and ensure all team members adhere to the same standards
  • Empower others to interact with clients, architects, engineers, and local authorities to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc. into project design and estimates
  • Oversee the evaluation of long-lead procurement needs and provide assistance and guidance as needed
  • Train, coach, and mentor others to evaluate, adjust, and reconcile estimates
  • Contribute towards discovery and pricing of value management options, as needed, based on size, scope, and project budget
  • Establish and track cost differences between progress estimate updates, using applicable software and internal tracking mechanisms
  • Evaluate actual productivity, cost, and schedule data from construction operations and report back to Estimating Team to support performance monitoring, reporting, and improvement
  • Influence future business development by seeking new and productive business relations
  • Express critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify problems, develop solutions, and conceptualize implementation before challenges become significant issues

QUALIFICATIONS

Required
  • A combination of 4 years of formal education (college or trade school) and/or on the job experience in construction
  • 5-7 years of vertical commercial carpentry experience
  • 3-5 years experience with Take-off software (E-Takeoff, On Screen Takeoff, etc.)
  • Microsoft office proficiency (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Teams)
  • AEP/CPE certification through American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE)
  • Experience with 3D/Model and other construction design and editing software

Preferred
  • 7+ years of vertical commercial construction experience in Alaska
  • 5+ years of construction foreman/project engineer
  • 5+ years Take off software (E-Takeoff, On Screen Takeoff, etc.)
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft office (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Teams)

The employee is required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch. The employee must lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have sufficient mobility to climb ladders, access tight spaces, and inspect concealed but accessible spaces within existing buildings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office and field, including travel statewide.
