Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

MassBayCommunity College seeks qualified part time instructors to teach Early Collegeand/or Commonwealth Dual Enrollment Partnership (CDEP) courses in Business,Economics, Marketing, Management, and other business-related courses. Classesmay take place at our Wellesley and/or Framingham MassBay campuses, or highschools within our service area, including, but not limited to Framingham,Millis, Waltham, and Milford.

The idealcandidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among adiverse student population. Thecandidate is expected to commit to excellence in teaching and learning,collaboration and professional development. Adjunct faculty are expected to deliver course materials in alearner-centered environment conductive to engaging students in the learningprocess. The faculty member in this position communicates consistently andeffectively with students, faculty and administrators, and responds tocommunications within a 24 hour period of time. The faculty is responsible formanaging this course through timely grading of assignments, providingsubstantial student feedback with assignments, and submission of clinicalevaluations, attendance and grades.

Our adjunct instructors hold amaster’s degree (or have at least five years of experience in a related field)and have obtained appropriate certification and/or licensure where applicable. Early College Pathways/CDEP adjunct instructors must be committed to workingwith high school-aged students and to teaching college classes in high schoolsacross the region and/or at one of the MassBay campus locations. Early CollegePathways adjunct instructors additionally will attend an Early College facultyorientation and participate in ongoing professional development throughout theyear.

Please note: For classes heldat high school campuses, teaching schedules may vary by school district but areprimarily daytime hours between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, with some limitedavailability of late afternoon/early evening or weekend assignments.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Teach Early College and/or dual enrollment high school students in area high schools, including but not limited to Framingham, Millis, Waltham, and/or Milford, or at our Wellesley Hills or Framingham MassBay campuses;
  • Provide instruction during high school hours of operation when necessary;
  • Work in collaboration with MassBay and/or high school faculty and others to prepare syllabi and develop curricula in alignment with the vision and needs of the College, high schools and early college and/or CDEP initiatives;
  • Meet regularly at the posted class times and teach assigned courses using effective instructional strategies that promote student learning and preparation;
  • Use appropriate assessment methods consistently and regularly to measure student understanding in line with accreditation and College standards;
  • Engage in professional development activities to learn current practices concerning education generally as well as early college and/or dual enrollment initiatives;
  • Utilize the appropriate learning management system for either the College or high school as needed;
  • Attend meetings and submit reports or information as requested consistent with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
  • Maintain excellent communication with students, department and division staff throughout the semester;
  • Submit syllabi, midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the College, high school, and/or early college liaisons consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and college policies, practices, and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree related field. Five years of experience in a related business field may be substituted for a Master’s degree;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Community College experience strongly preferred;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body;
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning;
  • Demonstrated ability to use information technology effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Community College teaching experience strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with English language learners, adult learners, and at-opportunity students;
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement a curriculum that develops the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills of students and to use culturally responsive and inclusive perspectives;
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning;
  • Demonstrated interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $1,291.00 - 1,561.00 DCE Per Credit
