The Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department is recruiting for a Wastewater Operations and Maintenance Technician II (WW O&M Tech II). This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of vital facilities. Your knowledge, experience, and certification levels are instrumental in the effective functioning of the County's wastewater treatment facilities. WW O&M Tech II, tasks and skill levels are greater than the WW O&M Tech I tasks in that they provide leadership, mentorship, and additional training to other operational staff. WW O&M Tech II uses intermediate/advanced operating principles of facility Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and computerized maintenance management systems and may be required to assist in performing some duties of O&M Supervisors, especially in preparation for WW O&M Tech III. WW O&M Tech II must maintain a valid ADEQ Grade 2 (or higher) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification. Performs all duties and responsibilities of the 5804 - O&M Technician I:
Follows all safety procedures including proper LOTO and confined space procedures;
Operates and monitors equipment and processes involved in the treatment and processing of wastewater and its byproducts, including solids, gas, service water, and side streams;
Collects and records data relating to the operations and maintenance of assigned equipment and systems
Reports equipment & process data/information;
Interprets readings on metering/process control devices and test/analysis results, and adjusts equipment and machinery as necessary;
Evaluates, troubleshoots, and adjusts wastewater treatment and solids handling processes;
Initiates remedial or repair actions to assure system operations continuity;
Performs operator-level servicing, preventive maintenance, and adjustments to assigned equipment, facilities, and associated systems;
Assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of large, complex equipment and associated components;
Collects and analyzes wastewater samples in field and laboratory setting, reports results;
Ensures proper use, care, and calibration of standard laboratory equipment and reports lab supply status to Supervisors;
Performs basic housekeeping functions by cleaning and maintaining work areas, buildings, and grounds;
Assists in training O&M Technicians;
Communicates effectively with team & Supervisors, and follows written and verbal instructions;
Uses basic algebra and other mathematical calculations;
Prepares for and responds to hydraulic loading events;
Responds to plant emergencies;
Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work environment;
Some positions require on-call rotations (SRF)
Duties and responsibilities of the 5712 - O&M Technician II:
Uses intermediate/advanced operating principles of facility Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and computerized maintenance management systems;
Provides leadership, mentorship, and training to other operational staff;
May be required to assist in performing some duties of O&M Supervisors, especially in preparation for Tech III;
Must maintain a valid ADEQ Grade 2 (or higher) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification
Responsible for other duties as assigned in support of the overall goals and functions of both the Human Resources Department and Pima County. Minimum Qualifications
A High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency, a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade 2 (or higher) Wastewater Treatment System Operator certification, AND at least 2 years of experience in the operation of a wastewater/water facility or related industry/facility with at least 1 year as an operator at a Grade 3 or 4 wastewater facility (Section R18-5-114).
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum two (2) years experience performing preventative maintenance at a water/wastewater or similar process.
Minimum two (2) years experience in the operation of a water, wastewater treatment facility or similar process.
Minimum one (1) year experience with laboratory, SCADA, or regulatory compliance.
Minimum one (1) year experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, or comparable software.
Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. All positions require at minimum a valid ADEQ Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification. (Qualifying RWRD Employees prior to 9/10/22023 must maintain a valid Arizona Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification). If an applicant has an equivalent certification from another state, certification through reciprocity with ADEQ must be obtained within 3 months of hire or promotion. All positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application. Failure to obtain and maintain the required certification/licensure shall be grounds for termination.

The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. This position requires successful demonstration of internal O&M knowledge and skills within the probationary period.
Physical/Sensory Requirements: A post job offer physical is required. All positions require sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina, and balance to allow for standing, walking, sitting, grasping and manipulation of work objects, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing stairs and ladders. All positions require regular or occasional crawling, kneeling, squatting, lifting/carrying objects up to fifty pounds, pushing and pulling objects up to seventy-five pounds, and the ability to properly don and doff fall protection to enter and work in confined spaces. Essential to this position is corrected or sufficient vision; the ability to see, read and interpret written information, manuals, gauges, etc., including distinguishing various colors. Also essential to this position is corrected or sufficient hearing; the ability to hear and comprehend voice communications in-person, over a radio and phone, and to hear operating equipment. All positions require the operation of machinery, powered industrial equipment and motor vehicles. All positions require outdoor work, including during inclement and hot weather, exposure to waterborne pathogens/agents, hazardous materials and gases, water hazards and wet/slippery surfaces, odors, fumes, humidity, dirt, dust, traffic hazards, venomous pests, uneven surfaces and electric arc flash potential.
