The Headside Lead assists the Flour or Corn Production Supervisor with the manufacturing a quality product in accordance with customer's written specifications.

Description of Primary Duties and Responsibilities





  • Ability to operate all headside equipment/machines for the assigned department.

  • Prepares for start-up or shut down of equipment.

  • Assists, trains, encourages and directs Machine and Mixer Operators on how to adjust and operate equipment and keep legible accurate records as required including Machine Operators Logs and Mixer Operators Logs per SOP.

  • Assists the Supervisor in completing essential paperwork.

  • Performs all other tasks as assigned.

  • Stops machine to make required adjustments following lockout-tagout policy.

  • Maintains good manufacturing practices and personal hygiene.

  • Keeps department clean and neat.

  • Responsible for following company policies/procedures written or verbal.

  • Notifies Supervisor and QC of contamination.

  • Must be able to perform the Machine Operators Training Checklist and the Mixer Operators Training Checklist (for applicable line/department) job tasks by the end of the 10 working day trial period.

  • Ensure product specifications are met in accordance with customers written specifications.

  • Must adhere to all safety policies and operate equipment in a safe manner.

  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting any wear and tear on equipment and notifies the Supervisor and Maintenance of equipment malfunction, breakdown, and safety hazards.




Ensures Operators are following Lock Out-Tag Out policy.



  • Coordinates with the Packout Lead which products are scheduled to be run on each line.

  • Relieves Headside personnel when necessary; operating machine and mixer.



MUST ATTEND DAILY END OF SHIFT MEETINGS FOR THEIR SHIFT.


COMPLETED LOCKOUT/TAGOUT TRAINING REQUIRED.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.



  • Requires 100% flexibility of wrists and hands.

  • Walking, bending, standing and some lifting required.

  • Lifting of up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.

  • Must be able to move heavy objects (100 lbs.) with mechanical device.




Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required for the Position





  • Responsible for taking on multiple projects at any time with a very short deadline to meet.

  • Must be able to use a calculator to figure production efficiencies, scrap yields, SPC specifications, proper blend ingredient weights, etc.

  • Must be able to read the Operator's Logs (Machine Op. and Mixer Op.), press and mixer related SOP's, and various Production SOP's for the assigned department.

  • Must be able to write production recordings in the Operator's Logs (Machine Op. and Mixer Op.) and fill out production documentation completely and accurately.

  • Must be able to use and read scales and thermometers.

  • Be familiar with weight scales.

  • Must be able to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.


Training (Equipment & Methods)





  • Job specific training will be conducted by the designated trainer on the shift.

  • Team members will be evaluated on job performance in accordance with the Training Program SOP (PR 2.4).

  • SPC training conducted by designated trainer. Documentation and agenda kept by Quality Control.


Job Safety Analysis





  • Personal Protective Equipment: Smock, hair net, ear plugs, slip resistant steel toed shoes (Corn dept.), and safety glasses.

  • Monthly training of a Safety topic and a GMP topic will be conducted by their immediate supervisor from information provided by the Safety Director and QA Manager.
