Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks an Embedded Systems Engineering Technician to work in our Power Systems Forensics department. In this role you will join a cross functional team performing forensic analysis on protective relays. You will collaborate with software, firmware, hardware, mechanical and power engineers to troubleshoot and solve a wide range of problems. Your analysis will influence future engineering decisions for protective relay platforms, furthering SEL's mission of making electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical.
As an Embedded Systems Technician a typical day might include the following:
Work with mixed-discipline engineering teams to perform in-depth troubleshooting, reverse-engineering, and analysis of failures in protective relay platforms.
With engineering support, perform/develop mixed-disciplinary tests (hardware emphasis) of varying complexity based on an existing and evolving knowledge of embedded systems, power systems, electronics and protective relay platforms.
Own the communication of results and progress to product line owners, manufacturing and quality personnel via test reports, and established meetings.
Build engineering prototypes under the direction of an electrical engineer. Document prototype construction and maintain pertinent engineering records.
Design and assemble complex test fixtures, load banks, and other components common to product development.
This job might be for you if:
Two-year electronic technology or related associate degree
Minimum of four years experience testing and analyzing complex electronic circuitry.
Disciplined and scientific approach to troubleshooting.
Proficient with modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
Proficient with modern test equipment.
Strong organizational, documentation, and speaking skills.

Pay Range Data
Hardware Engineering Technician I $24.00- $34.75. Hardware Engineering Technician II $26.20 - $39.28. Senior Engineering Technician $29.25 - $45.67. (etc.) Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
