Job Description:

The Northeast Georgia Health System Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) serves as the principle for developing strategic nursing informatics plans, data analysis, creation of policies and procedures and serves as a champion for complex nursing projects and systems that support efficiency and effectiveness for end users, with the primary goal of advancing nursing's evidence-based practice. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and collaborating of the Chief Nursing Executive (CNE), Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), and other executives on the clinical and administrative decision-making process, develops clinical systems strategy and optimizes the use of existing clinical systems, for nurses, physicians, and other multidisciplinary care providers.

The CNIO forecasts needs for complex multi-system change, which includes but is not limited to improving the clinical quality, safety, and operational integrity of clinical information systems; and integrating quality improvement and regulatory standards into CIS to maximize clinical intelligence for quality, research, and evidence-based practice activities.

Participates as a member of strategic management team and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary leaders to inform and refine the Clinical Systems Strategic Roadmap and implementation plans. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes a multidisciplinary team concept and reflects the organization's mission and values.

Minimum Qualifications -
  • In State Nursing License (Georgia)
  • Master's degree in Clinical Informatics, Nursing, Healthcare Information Systems, or related field required
  • Minimum of 5 years advanced leadership skills.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible management experience in healthcare/hospital clinical information systems.

Preferred Skills -
  • Significant experience with EPIC
  • Oversight for Clinical Application support and direct supervision for three clinical informatics resources
  • Operational experience as a Director in a health system is preferred.

  • Demonstrated understanding of hospital systems operations and the importance of technology to support and improve patient care and safety
  • Proven management and leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and developing staff
  • Serves as champion on organizational initiatives. Responsible for ensuring problems of project teams are escalated to senior team for assistance/decisions/barrier removal.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Provides input and operational oversight for the strategic plan, vision, and clinical operations for the system-wide clinical technology in the practice settings across the continuum.
  • Partners with the Chief Medical Information Officer and Chef Nursing Executive in the design and implementation of leveraging technology to improve work processes, decrease work intensity, and improve quality and safety.
  • Provides senior ITS clinical leadership coordination and oversight for the implementation, operation, growth, and integration of clinical and business systems with other Health System information technology and initiatives.
  • Acts as a liaison between IT, Clinical Staff and Physician Staff to ensure that CIS/EMR implementations are optimized based on clinical workflow redesign, training and support and participates on appropriate committees and councils
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining IT Strategic and Tactical Plans, with particular emphasis on Clinical Information Systems (CIS)
  • Oversees training delivery across the system with responsibility for managing the technical training delivery and preparing the entire workforce and all providers for the use of technology to improve patient safety and clinical practice
  • Helps assess and recommend data driven improvements to various business and clinical operations and work processes.
  • Actively serves on the NGHS Administrative & ITS Call Rotation
