The Iowa River LandingPathology Department, a multi-specialty UIHC medical building in Coralville, Iowa, is seeking aMedical Laboratory Technician. Under general supervision and alongside a team of other Medical Lab Technicians/Scientists, this role provides waived and moderately complex clinical lab testing and analysis on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease. Will use a variety of procedures that may involve numerous detailed tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment..
Job Responsibilities:
Performs quantitative and qualitative analysis for both waived and moderately complex testing on laboratory clinical and research biological specimens such as blood, tissue and body fluids.
Provides information to health care provider regarding test methodology and interpretation. Evaluates test results and provides support to MLS.
Investigates quality assurance issues involving patient samples. Carries out recommended corrective action for quality assurance.
Calibrates, conducts routine maintenance, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation.
Seeks technical direction from the MLS with specific instrumentation problems.
Assists in reagent comparisons, evaluates results and recommends changes to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Participates in evaluation of equipment and recommends products for acquisition.
Maintains inventory and orders supplies as needed.
Complies with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements of the laboratory section.
Performs, records, and reviews daily quality control associated with assigned testing.
Documents and reports variances to the MLS.
Participates in the Quality Assurance program within the section. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations to the MLS for resolution of identified problems/errors.
Assists with writing and revising laboratory procedures according to NCCLS guidelines.
Performs additional tasks, special functions and/or special projects as assigned.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: 40 hours a week will be accomplished between the times of 12:30pm-9:00pm, Monday - Thursday and 9:30am - 6:00pm Friday. Rotating Saturday and on-call coverage.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution, or
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or eligible from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or
Successfully completed an official US military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Desired Qualifications:
6 months - 1 year clinical laboratory experience, which may include program training experience.
6 months - 1 year Hematology Differential reading.
6 months - 1 year experience with quality control analysis and troubleshooting.
1 - 3 years as a generalist with core competency in Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Hematology; demonstrated proficiency within the past 5 years performing microscopic examination on patient specimens.
Previous experience in Phlebotomy is highly desirable
Certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is highly desirable.
Experience with Cobas Analyzers troubleshooting and maintenance.
