The Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Linguistics (with a specialization in syntax-morphology interface and/or the syntax-semantics interface) for the 2024-2025 academic year, and renewable up to three years.


The Postdoctoral Fellow will be hosted in the Language Contact and Cognition Lab which focuses on cognitive aspects of multilingualism. In addition to conducting research in the Language Contact and Cognition Lab, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with other research labs in the Linguistics department and with the broader community of language researchers at Penn. The University of Pennsylvania is home to a vibrant interdisciplinary community that studies language across several departments. Competitive salary and benefits.



Responsibilities:



The Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate closely with other members of the research team of the Language Contact and Cognition Lab, contribute to project planning, writing, manage day-to-day operations in the lab, participate in participant recruitment, conduct data collection and data analysis of large and small corpora, and disseminate results. They will also be involved in grant-writing with the lab PI. The Fellow will work both independently and collaboratively, contributing to the evolution of various projects.



Qualifications:



- Required:



  • PhD in Computational Linguistics (with a specialization in syntax-morphology interface and/or the syntax-semantics interface). The dissertation must be completed before the start date.



  • Excellent data science skills (in particular strong statistical modeling of corpus and database data)



  • Extensive experience analyzing large and small corpora



  • Solid knowledge of general linguistics


    - Desired:



  • Experience with multilingual populations



  • Working with under-resourced languages



  • Knowledge of the literature on multilingualism



  • Knowledge of the literature on linguistic typology
