Position: Chief Executive Officer

Reports To: Board of Directors
Supervises: Executive Management Team

Nature of Work:
Responsible for providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the Board of Directors and the Executive Management Team to establish long and short range goals, strategies, plans and policies. Directs the formulation of budgets, financial forecasts, and other financial strategies. Directs the sales/marketing and business development efforts of the company. Provides leadership to key staff and serves as the model for developing the culture of the organization. The CEO also serves as a member of the Board of
Directors.
Essential Functions:
Collaborates with the Board to define and articulate the organization's vision and to develop strategies for achieving that vision.
Creates annual operating plans that support strategic direction set by the Board and correlate with annual operating budgets.
Develops and monitors strategies for ensuring the long-term financial viability of the organization.
Directs the formulation of budgets, financial forecasts, and other financial strategies.
Directs the sales/marketing and business development efforts of the company.
Develops new sources of revenue for the company.
Provides leadership to key staff and serves as the model for developing the culture of the organization that reflects the organization's values, encourages good performance, and rewards productivity.
Develops future leadership within the organization.
Oversees the operations of organization and manages its compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate in-place systems and procedures and streamline where appropriate.
Evaluate technology implementation and optimize within budget constraints.
Visit all newspaper locations and evaluate their needs, performance, personnel and cost-effectiveness.
Other Functions:
May represent the company at public functions and in industry associations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership skills
A working knowledge of newspaper operations, digital media and business development
Excellent analytical and problem solving ability
The ability to budget and conduct strategic planning
Strong relationship building skills
Strong business ethics
A working knowledge of business/employment law, corporate finance and accounting procedures
Education and Experience:
Five years minimum top management experience in communications industry. General newspaper knowledge a must, but career-long newspaper experience is second to leadership experience, foresight, and new revenue development. Experience of building non-traditional newspaper/advertising revenue streams from digital and event revenues would be beneficial.
