Summary:
The Data Catalog Specialist manages and organizes the organization's data catalog, ensuring data is properly classified, accessible, and compliant. This role supports data discovery, governance, and collaboration across teams to optimize data use.
Essential Functions:
Leverage data mining techniques and literature review methodologies to systematically identify, catalog, and enrich systems, tables, and data elements with the most relevant and current metadata. This process ensures analysts have comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date context, facilitating more effective data discovery, analysis, and decision-making.
Perform duties with minimum direction using research methodology to discover, validate and populate the catalog with comprehensive metadata including but not limited to: Data descriptions, Data Ownership and Custodianship, Use Case (for usage notes), Data Quality, Ontology, Attributes and Lineage of Data Systems.
Perform and coordinate data administration activities to ensure the effective monitoring, maintenance, and management of data assets throughout their lifecycle. This includes overseeing data quality, accessibility, and security to support operational efficiency and informed decision-making.
Facilitate and support change control, problem management, and team communication by working collaboratively with data architects, developers, analysts, and engineers.
Establish and enforce processes that ensure the data catalog is consistent, well-managed, and fully integrated, supporting data accessibility, accuracy, and usability across the organization.
Perform other data ELT/ETL functions as necessary to support migration to the cloud and continued support of the Data Catalog and AAG RFL Customers.
Required Qualifications and Skills include:
Must hold a CompTIA Security+ certification (DoD 8570 IAT II), demonstrating commitment to security and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills include:
Experience with Agile methodologies.
Additional certifications such as MCSE Data Platform or Business Intelligence, ICCP CDMP, or similar certifications.
In depth knowledge of Military Organizational and Rank Structure, Armed Forces Career Paths and Management, experience with DoD Enterprise Personnel Databases.
Bachelor's degree.
Education/Experience includes:
2 to 4+ years of Data Catalog experience

Clearance Requirement:
Requires an Active Secret clearance with the ability to upgrade to TS/SCI.
