Job Description Summary:
The City of Columbia is seeking a motivated and experienced Engineer to join our Public Works team. As a key player in the Engineering Division, you will have the opportunity to design, manage, and implement impactful infrastructure projects that shape the future of our city. You'll ensure regulatory compliance, design excellence, and provide technical support across multiple areas, from transportation systems to sanitary sewer services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and modify engineering designs, plans, reports, estimates, and specifications.
  • Manage capital improvement projects from start to finish, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical reviews on engineering proposals, reports, and calculations.
  • Conduct cost estimates for construction projects and ensure plans comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participate in public meetings and concept reviews, maintaining open communication with stakeholders and customers.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years in engineering, construction, or a related field.
  • Licenses: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and valid driver's license are required.
  • Skills: Proficiency in engineering design software, excellent communication, and strong problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction practices, and relevant software.
  • Familiarity with Planning and Zoning regulations and project management methodologies.
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret complex data and present findings clearly.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based, with occasional site visits to outdoor locations and construction sites.
  • Exposure to loud noises, extreme temperatures, and potentially irate individuals on rare occasions.

Special Considerations:

  • Candidates without a Professional Engineer license may be considered for the role of Engineering Specialist, with a starting salary of $30.72 to $37.79 per hour.
