Evidence of a minimum of 5 years of successful professional employment experience in education, including teaching, counseling, psychology, supervision, and/or administration. Familiarity and a demonstrated passion for social and emotional learning and wellness. Strong background in professional learning development and delivery for school improvement. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Purpose of Position:

The Director of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Universal Pre-K (UPK) oversees systemic SEL programming to best support the needs of all students, faculty, and staff. The Director of SEL and UPK oversees the administration of the district's UPK program including, but not limited to, assessments, placement, and supporting daily operations. This position will serve as a resource for parent workshops and a community liaison for business partnerships.

Duties:

  1. Instructional Leadership:

  1. Lead UPK administrator including, but not limited to, annual UPK application process, quality assurance protocol, oversight of lottery and communications, parent engagement, student assessments, placements, student behavior management, student achievement data, daily operations including arrival and dismissal.
  2. Provides leadership and direction toward ensuring that all students develop the social and emotional competencies needed to succeed in school and life;
  3. Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive approach to SEL while ensuring that all programs align with district priorities;
  4. Maintains close collaborative relationships with building and district administrators and supports principals in crisis situations involving students and/or faculty/staff;
  5. Provides information, resources, and assistance to faculty regarding SEL development and implementation;
  6. Collaborates with administrators, K-12 Counseling Department Chair, and other school staff in working with students who experience personal, social and/or emotional issues that prevent students from achieving in the classroom setting;
  7. Coordinates and compiles, with the assistance of the Technology Department, SEL related data;
  8. Analyzes related data collected (e.g. climate survey) to assess effectiveness, areas of progress and targets for improvement, assists with identifying action steps to best support students in moving SEL initiatives forward;
  9. Works with administrators and teachers to remove barriers and provide an equitable educational opportunity for all students;
  10. Performs informal unannounced walkthroughs to observe SEL curriculum and instructional delivery. Provides feedback on findings to teachers and building administrators. Performs APPR duties as assigned.

  1. Professional Learning and School Improvement

    1. Collaborates with the Professional Learning Committee to provide guidance on professional learning opportunities related to SEL;
    2. Facilitates district-wide SEL initiatives in regard to professional learning;
    3. Evaluates the effectiveness of SEL initiatives and impact on the District goals;
    4. Assists with developing relevant curricula that incorporates diverse perspectives, materials, and texts and that supports the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students;
    5. Assists with addressing biases, stereotypes, inaccuracies, and absent perspectives in curricular content;
    6. Provides learning opportunities for students to develop an understanding of themselves and others who are culturally different - Plans and facilitates student diversity summits 6-12;
    7. Promotes equal access and opportunities to all students to fully participate and contribute regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, religion, sexual orientation, or any other identity.

  2. School and Community Relationships:

    1. McKinney Vento liaison;
    2. Oversees snack pack program;
    3. Coordinates parent outreach and parent involvement in the development of SEL programs and initiatives;
    4. Develops a plan with protocols and procedures to create, develop, and foster community partnerships and parent engagement;
    5. Oversees, coordinates, and/or leads parent university trainings/programs;
    6. Works local and state agencies and organizations, both public and private, to support students for example SUNY Adirondack and Warren County Interagency;
    7. Participates as a member of the district administrative team.


  1. Other Duties

  1. Lead TCIS trainer
  2. Attends evening events/activities as necessary and/or required;
  3. Provides regular updates and presentations to the Superintendent, administrators, and Board, as appropriate;
  4. Collaborates and seeks input from the K-12 Counseling Dept. chair and school counselors, social workers, and school psychologists.
  5. Participates in building department meetings, district-level meetings, Board meetings, and other meetings as required and/or appropriate;
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.
