Spectrolab, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer Technician - Solar Panel/Array Assembly, to join our Engineering group located at our manufacturing facility in Sylmar, California.
Spectrolab is the world's leading merchant supplier of the highest efficiency multijunction solar cells for spacecraft power systems, with proven reliability drawn from 65 years of space heritage. Spectrolab's state-of-the-art space solar cells and panels power satellites in Earth's orbit, as well as the International
Space Station. Since its founding in 1956, Spectrolab has led the way in the development of high efficiency solar cells for space missions. During the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, a Spectrolab product became the first solar panel to be placed on the moon.
Position Responsibilities Include:
Support and assist production processes and help generate and maintain process documentation to ensure correct and consistent process application in production.
Help implement manufacturing plans and assist in developing and maintaining manufacturing training requirements.
Support definition of required tooling methodologies to ensure consistent process application.
Conduct producibility and variation analyses to ensure that manufacturing process capability matches requirements.
Assist in providing producibility information for inclusion in project plans and help document producibility best practices.
Identify leading edge technologies, materials or process improvements, and targeted automation to improve ergonomics, safety, cost, and schedule.
Utilize and monitor SPC and perform Pareto Analysis to identify and correct process drift and identify and implement continuous improvements to product and process.
Resolve technical problems impacting manufacturing operations by addressing them directly or by engaging with engineering staff.
This position is expected to be fully onsite in Sylmar, CA.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
1+ Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Experience in general assembly or mechanical work such as adhesive bonding, resistance welding, wire harnessing.
Experience with photovoltaicpanel assembly or photovoltaic array integration and testing.
Experience with maintaining production procedures and documentation.
Experience leading or participating in Lean events (AIW, 3P etc.).
Experience with Factory Automation business capabilities such as machine tool integration or fabrication.
Experience with database design or database development (SQL preferred).
Experience as process trainer (maintain training record).
Familiarity with AS9100, NASA, AIAA, and other Aerospace standards.
Experience in hands on troubleshooting and resolving of process, test, or software issues.
Typical Education/Experience:
Associate (level 2): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor, 3 years' related work experience, etc.).
Experience (level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+1 years' related work experience, 5 years' related work experience, etc.).
