Student Wellness envisions a thriving campus culture that is safe, equitable and well. As a health promotion and prevention office, we educate, advocate, support and promote individual and community health and well-being. Through partnerships with other campus departments, community agencies, student organizations, and peer mentors we use evidence informed public health strategies to foster an environment that creates, emphasizes, and supports healthy choices and positive decision making regarding health, safety, and wellness. We are a fast-paced, high performing office that utilizes a holistic, topic-integrated, and evidence-based comprehensive approach to wellness, and are seeking experienced professionals to join our interdisciplinary team.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Under the direction and support of the Director and Associate Director of Student Wellness, the Health Promotion Programs Coordinator (HP Coordinator) works in concert with other Student Wellness health promotion and prevention staff, and collaborates with departments and colleagues across campus to support the overall holistic health and wellness of students by mobilizing and sustaining evidence based and best practice health promotion strategies designed towards student success and personal development, and to contribute to a healthier and well campus culture.
Utilizing ACHA, NASPA and related guidelines, the HP Coordinator manages the planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive, campus-wide health promotion strategies, programs, and services utilizing a public health framework, and the overlay of our eight Dimensions of Wellness. As well, this role supports our sexual health education resources, sleep hygiene and nutrition education, and advises our peer education program 'healthy heels ambassadors' (hha!).
The HP Coordinator is a key role within a larger health promotion, prevention and advocacy team. Additional components of the role include working with the Health Promotion Communications Coordinator to develop, implement and manage digital resources such as online modules, apps, messaging and related digital means that provide 24 hr. resource accessibility to support students' holistic health and wellbeing.
This role is integral to the overall general health promotion strategies on campus, and specifically to the broader population-based education and outreach efforts. The position involves population level and selected group outreach through both in-person and virtual means and creates culturally inclusive health programs and resources to ensure efforts reach all Carolina students. The position reports to the Associate Director for Health Promotion.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
* Working knowledge of current trends and standards in health promotion/prevention approaches.
* Knowledge of and ability to apply health education and prevention principles, theories, and practices to a broader campus setting.
* Demonstration of successful program development, implementation and evaluation experience.
* Ability to present with an outgoing, positive and engaging perspective when interacting with campus constituents.
* Ability to develop strong working relationships, and work with diverse undergraduate and graduate/professional students, faculty, and staff communities, and with both health professionals and non-health related colleagues.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of FERPA and privacy/confidentiality related to student records.
* Demonstrated experience in navigating/managing sensitive topics related to sexual health & healthy relationships.
* Evidence of ability to practice problem-solving skills in analyzing health and wellness needs of emerging adults, especially high-achieving college students.
* Evidence of ability to work independently and exercise critical and analytical thinking skills to address student and developing staff needs.
* Evidence of ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
* Master's degree in public health or closely related field.
* 1-3 years' previous health promotion experience, preferably within a University setting, and/or with young adult populations.
Ability to move up to 25 lbs., with or without accommodations, while preparing program materials for outreach.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
