Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Division of Cognitive Behavioral Neurology serves as both a research and clinical unit focused on disorders of mental function that are predominantly neurodegenerative in origin. The Division is home to several physicians, advanced practice providers and neuropsychologists who work as a team to provide care for patients with cognitive decline and dementia. We offer clinical trial participation to our patients and partner closely with translational science colleagues to engage in cutting-edge research regarding specific neurodegenerative disease pathogenesis and progression.
The Division is part of the Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, which is in the forefront of a new era in neuroscience, as a leader in teaching, providing and discovering new treatments for neurological diseases. The Department of Neurology provides the neurological expertise to support the Medical School's three-part mission of teaching, research and patient care. We have more than 50 faculty with broad subspecialty representation in epilepsy, sleep disorders, movement disorders, neuromuscular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, pediatric neurological disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuroimmunology, behavioral neurology, dementia and neurocritical care. We are dedicated to teaching. We provide educational programs for our medical students, residents and fellows that teach the art of compassionate care with the science of evidence-based treatment. Our research laboratories in the Neuroscience Research Center provides state-of-the-art facilities for our faculty to carry out their investigations into the basic mechanisms of neurological physiology and pathophysiology. The faculty have a strong commitment to clinical research and the Department is active in many clinical trials of treatment for neurological disease.


Position Summary:

The Division of Cognitive Neurology within the Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow to assist Dr. Bozoki with her NIH-funded research at UNC-Chapel Hill. The work will focus on analysis of already-collected imaging, clinical and fluid biomarker data that are part of several multi-site research consortia, one focused on Lewy Body Disease, another on Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration and a third on normal older individuals who are at risk to transition to cognitively impaired over time. Strategic use of National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) data will also be incorporated into some projects. The person in this position is expected to lead independent analyses related to these research areas and to write up the results for submission to scientific journals in collaboration with the PI and collaborators within UNC's Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC) and the Duke-UNC Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to publish first-authored manuscripts and present research at national-level conferences.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

MD/PhD, PhD, MBBS or equivalent in Cognitive Neuroscience, Medicine or a related field.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Knowledge-base expectations include proficiency with Matlab, R, Python, multiple statistical and database analysis tools and at least one comprehensive neuroimaging analysis package (e.g. SPM or Freesurfer). Both strong computational and writing skills are critical for this role, as is the ability to conduct analyses independently.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Several first-authored publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and a history of presenting work at scientific conferences. Prior grant-writing experience is also valued.
