The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Associate Director, Proposal Writing to work at UHealth in Miami, FL. This position has the option to work remotely.




CORE JOB SUMMARY


The Assoc. Director, Proposal Writing (A) analyzes, simplifies, streamlines, and designs well-organized, high-quality, error-free content in both hard-copy and online formats for the University and assigned department(s) to best meet the needs of both internal and external audiences. The Assoc. Director, Proposal Writing (A) researches, writes, and organizes ideas, with the goal of formulating and writing principal and major gift proposals designed to substantially increase philanthropic support. The Associate Director will work closely with university administrators, faculty, development officers and graphic designers.




CORE JOB FUNCTIONS


Participates in proposal strategy, design, writing, and review sessions throughout the life of the proposal. Researches and writes compelling proposals, reports, and other individualized communications in support of University's strategic initiatives, inspiring new or continued philanthropy at the highest level. Describes complex subject matters in clear, persuasive language and presents concise rationales for philanthropy. Organizes source material and write descriptive and compelling proposal material according to the client's standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Serves as liaison to all assigned department staff units to effectively plan and support content related to their objectives. Analyzes requests for assistance and meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering writing, review, and approval. Coordinate requirements with contributors and contribute proposal status information to review meetings. Improves proposed-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate, implementing changes as needed. Proofreads and fact-checks documents for clarity and consistency and advises team of any identified corrections. Develops and maintains a sitemap for indexing and archiving content. Maintains a clear understanding of all development and fundraising goals, strategies, and messages. Monitors website performance and coordinates focus groups, user tests, and surveys to analyze and meet audience needs. Assures content creation aligns with the University's overall messaging and content strategy. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS



Education:


Bachelor's degree in relevant field. PhD in biomedical or related sciences preferred.




Experience:


Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Must have experience writing proposals submitted to the National Institutes of Health, preferably the National Cancer Institute and experience with Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR).




Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
