Job Title: Director of Total Rewards & People Operations

Compensation Range: $115,000-$145,000

The Director of Total Rewards & People Operations plays a pivotal role in leading and optimizing our HR functions, ensuring seamless operations while driving innovation in employee experience and organizational effectiveness. This leader will oversee HR technology systems, benefits, compensation strategies, employee wellness initiatives, workers' compensation, and compliance while aligning HR strategies with broader business objectives.

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement forward-thinking HR strategies that support organizational goals, align with business objectives, and foster a positive, inclusive culture. Provide direction and guidance on complex HR issues, policies, and practices.
  • Change Management: Serve as a key change agent for the organization, leading initiatives that support transformation and adaptability, fostering a resilient workforce.
  • HR Operations Excellence: Oversee the effective execution of HR business processes, ensuring efficiency, and maintaining a focus on improving the employee experience. Partner with external vendors and consultants to align HR solutions with the company's strategic goals.
  • Project & Time Management: Manage multiple projects and deadlines, applying strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Oversee HR initiatives, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Technology & Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage HR technology systems (HRIS) and data analytics to track key HR metrics. Use insights to drive strategic decision-making, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Employee Relations & Culture: Serve as a trusted coach for employees at all levels, addressing and resolving disputes, ensuring compliance with policies, and promoting a strong ethical framework across the organization. Lead investigations efficiently and maintain confidentiality.
  • Compensation & Benefits Management: Design and implement compensation structures to ensure equity across all levels of the organization. Maintain knowledge of pay scales, benefits, and compensation trends to ensure a competitive and fair environment.
  • Budget Management: Develop, manage, and modify assigned budget, ensuring financial resources are aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Training & Development: Lead HR training and development on assigned initiatives, ensuring that employees at all levels have opportunities benefit from people-related offerings. Infuse DEI principles into trainings and HR policies.
  • Compliance & Employment Law: Stay abreast of employment laws (EEO, employee relations, etc.) to ensure legal compliance. Partner with leaders on employee relations and other compliance-related activities.
  • Collaboration & Partnership: Partner with the Executive team and department leaders to support business objectives and organizational growth. Act as a consultant to management on HR issues, policies, and best practices.
  • Ethics & Organizational Culture: Uphold and promote a strong commitment to ethical behavior and DEI, driving initiatives that reinforce a positive and inclusive organizational culture.
  • Coaching & Mentorship: Provide ongoing support and coaching to People & Culture staff and leadership, promoting best practices in HR and ensuring alignment with organizational values.
  • Negotiation & Vendor Management: Negotiate with external vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality HR services and solutions.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Goodwill's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; monitoring performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Partner with People Relations as needed and appropriate.

Education and Experience:


  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including a strong background in compensation, benefits, HRIS, employee relations, and project management.
  • Leadership & People Management: Proven experience in leading high-performing teams, driving change, and developing talent within HR and across the organization.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities. Ability to clearly convey complex information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated experience in managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, with a focus on effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Strategic Thinking & Problem Solving: Ability to think strategically and provide solutions that align with the organization's long-term goals. Strong problem-solving skills, with an analytical approach to decision-making.
  • Proficiency in HR Technology: Strong knowledge of HR systems and data analytics, with the ability to use technology to enhance HR processes and employee experiences.
  • Compliance & Legal Knowledge: In-depth understanding of employment laws, HR compliance, and the ability to navigate complex legal landscapes while ensuring organizational compliance.
  • Change Agent: Experience leading change management efforts and driving organizational transformation in alignment with business strategies.
  • Ethics & Integrity: A strong commitment to ethical leadership, fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace culture.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Experience managing budgets and aligning resources with organizational priorities.

Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations:


  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement preferred.
  • Must have valid WA driver's license and proof of insurance.

Computer/Technology Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Experience with Dayforce a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.

Physical Abilities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required sit for long periods of time, communicate with other employees by talking and hearing, required to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds and to operate computer systems. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to communicate with others effectively both verbally and written, including those who have limited English skills.
