Position Overview:
The Senior Control Systems Engineer (CSE) designs, implements, and maintains automated control systems (Process Control/SIS/Analytical) and instrumentation for various plant processes and operations. This role ensures smooth operation of equipment and optimal production efficiency while adhering to safety and environmental regulations and standards. The Senior CSE designs control algorithms, troubleshoots system issues, performs upgrades, and collaborates with other engineers and operators to enhance overall production and performance.
Responsibilities:
Provide Control Systems & Instrumentation Engineering support across various systems and production areas.
Act as control systems focal point, providing or coordinating technical assurance of control systems for assigned area of responsibility.
Act as escalation point for complex issues identified during maintenance or inspection activities.
Provide guidance on control systems maintenance effectiveness to continuously improve correct scope definition and quality of execution.
Review performance of control systems designed to mitigate risks identified from management studies (i.e., Process Hazard Analysis).
Lead or participate in technical and safety reviews.
Participate in critical incident investigations to evaluate root causes and propose design or work process improvements.
Develop opportunity proposals and concept designs for additions or modifications to control systems.
Develop and review operating procedures for plant control systems equipment as required.
Proactively identify improvement opportunities via technical monitoring in alignment with HSSE, reliability, and cost standards and expectations.
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering
10+ years of related controls and instrumentation work experience
Skilled in base layer control and instrumentation (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Distributed Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, etc.)
Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems
Skilled in Control Algorithm implementation for DeltaV DCS platform, PLC applications and miscellaneous control hardware
Preferred Education and Experience:
Knowledge of refining and/or chemical processes
Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hate, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
