The Department of Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks highly qualified candidates for a full-time Research Assistant Professor. Exceptional researchers and scientists in the area of particle physics will be considered. The Physics Department is committed to building a culturally diverse educational environment, with a focus on diversifying the faculty. We are seeking faculty who can teach in these and other areas while contributing to the diversity and excellence in our programs and courses through their research, teaching and service.
Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession. The Nuclear Physics group at UIUC is presently involved in several key experiments. In the area of QCD, the group has key roles in relativistic heavy ion research with both the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and the sPHENIX experiment at BNL, and in hadron structure physics at E1039 at Fermilab and the COMPASS experiment at CERN. We also have broad QCD theory support. Members of the Nuclear Physics group are also playing leading roles in neutron electric dipole moment searches at the SNS and at the ILL.
Our faculty and students are affiliated with and have access to world-class experimental and computational facilities located in on-campus multidisciplinary research (fundamental and translational) centers and laboratories, including: Applied Research Institute , Advanced Materials Testing and Evaluation Laboratory ,,a href=">Aerodynamics Research Laboratory , the Coordinated Science Laboratory , the Center for Hypersonics and Entry Systems Studies , Materials Research Laboratory , Holonyak Micro & Nanotechnology Lab , the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology , and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications .
A doctoral degree in Physics or a related field is required at the start date, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a non-tenure track faculty position appointed on a 9-month service basis paid over twelve months. The budgeted salary range for the position is $85,000 to $95,00. A start date is expected in the fall of 2025; however, this is negotiable.
