The Vice President (VP) of Architecture for the Development Department will be responsible for shaping and executing the company's architectural vision, design, planning, and implementation of large-scale projects within the real estate and hospitality portfolio. In this role, the VP will lead the conceptual and strategic direction of all architectural projects in identifying, leveling, and working with third party architecture groups, ensuring design integrity from inception through completion. The VP of Architecture will collaborate closely with the Development Department and the SVP's of Development at Turnberry on a range of projects, interpreting and contributing to the entirety of the design and construction process. This position demands a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of architectural design, project management, and industry-specific regulations and trends. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking strategist and an excellent communicator, with a proven track record in the real estate and hospitality industries.
STRATEGIC VISION AND TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP:
Oversee the architectural design and development process from concept through completion, ensuring design integrity and alignment with business objectives.
Maintain the highest standards of design quality, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Effectively communicate the architectural vision and strategy to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment and support for key initiatives.
Conduct architectural reviews and provide guidance on complex technical issues.
Manages larger business processes and/or projects, setting priorities and measurable objectives, monitoring and reporting on the process, progress and results.
Work closely with other departments, including Turnberry leadership, to ensure project success and ensuring that the leadership team's vision is realized.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key third-party architectural firms to ensure long-term collaboration. Allocate resources efficiently to support third-party architectural work and ensure project success.
PROJECT OVERSIGHT AND COMMUNICATIONS:
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines, budgets, and quality.
Facilitate clear and open communication among project stakeholders, ensuring alignment on goals, progress updates, and issue resolution.
Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise with third-party architectural firms during the project lifecycle.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the project team, implementing lessons learned and best practices to enhance project outcomes and team performance.
Participation in the regular Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings. Monitor the Schedule and Resources, Procurement Log, Submittal Log, Requests for Information (RFI's), and Potential Change Orders, making recommendations to the Turnberry Development Team and Contractor for improvements and efficiencies to maintain the project schedule and meet the project budget.
Communicate on behalf of the development department to ensure that the vision for the project is upheld.
Coordinate the approval process for design changes and updates, ensuring relevant Turnberry leadership's approval is obtained before implementation.
Implement processes for continuous improvement in how Turnberry team feedback is managed and communicated to third-party architects.
Visit job sites as necessary and travel as required.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
Demonstrate deep expertise in architectural design principles, sustainability practices, and construction methodologies.
Possess a deep understanding of local, national, and international building codes, regulations, and standards relevant to architectural design and construction.
Stay abreast of advancements in architectural technologies, materials, and methodologies, and effectively integrate them into project designs to enhance functionality, durability, cost, and aesthetics.
Proficient in architectural visualization software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp) to adjust models, facilitating Turnberry feedback in design development, coordination, and presentation.
Identify potential design risks and challenges early in the project lifecycle and develop proactive strategies to mitigate risks and ensure project success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master of Architecture Degree.
Demonstrate deep expertise in architectural design principles, sustainability practices, and construction methodologies.
Establish and enforce rigorous quality control processes throughout the design process, conducting peer reviews and quality audits to maintain high standards of design excellence and accuracy.
At least 10 years of experience in architecture, including significant experience either working at an Architecture firm in a project management role or managing third-party architectural firms as an owner representative.
Strong negotiation skills to handle contracts, project leveling, project scope, and timelines with third-party firms.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organization for effective coordination with third-party architects, clients, and internal teams.
Strong project management skills with a proven track record of managing complex projects involving multiple external partners.
Ability to lead and influence both internal teams and external partners to ensure project alignment with the company's vision and standards.
